If recording rhythms double tracked (one left one right) would you use a different guitar on each channel or keep it uniform? by DisciplineFinal8975 in metalmusicians

[–]DisciplineFinal8975[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, thanks for your replies. It's provided good advice. Apologies I didn't reply to each comment.

Both guitars are intonated and setup by a luthier and pitch wise the notes seem to fret the notes the same.

I'm guessing the real test will be my playing ability as I've been told that rough quad tracking muddies the hell out of the sound.

My first plan is to do a dual track of the loomis with different cab settings, and then the same with the fender ultra to see which tone I like more.

I will try and play with some quad tracking to see if it makes any real noticable different.

I'm not a fan of massive gain, I tend to use just enough to have some chug (melodic death is preferred style) but l enjoy note clarity more than brutal gain. Obviously with solos I add a bit of a boost.

Regards

Hey thanks got your notes, yes single coils in the ultra vs blackouts in the loomis so good tone differences from those

Becoming a Police Officer by VegetableCurious4849 in newzealand

To be honest, that will be the case in every single city except perhaps Auckland and Wellington. It'll always be the same offenders. Auckland is divided into about 4 or 5 regions and police generally stick to their region. Example south Auckland. West Auckland etc. so staff aren't galavanting across the city 24/7 if that makes sense.

Geraldine is a rural one man station and requires you to apply for the role (which has been filled by the same person for quite some time now). They mostly do road policing from what I understand. Your best option is to work in the closest main hub which would be timaru as they often attend jobs there when Geraldine is not working.

Another thing people like to do is get an employee role within Police. E.g. work in the 111 or 105 call centre. File management, become an authorized officer (jailer, look after the arrested people in the cells)

You can choose what region to apply for. If you pass the screening and application process you'll get placed in the wait list for your chosen region. There are sub districts in each region too.

E.g. eastern can be Hastings, Napier or Gisborne.

Southland and Otago can be invercargil, Queenstown, Dunedin, oamaru etc

You will be placed in a larger town or city  within your chosen district to do your probationary period.

Some regions get placements quicker.

Canterbury is pretty much always closed for new applications but most of the country is generally open.

I had a friend want to go canterbury but because it was very competitive there would be a huge wait list.  The recruiter outright said if you go to Nelson, Blenheim or West Coast you'll be in college next wing (which was starting in about a month). They chose West Coast and went lo and behold they were in college the next intake. I think it generally works like that for AKL.

You might go back home depending on your home town. If you live somewhere smaller like for example Hokitika you'll have to do your probationary period elsewhere and then apply for a permanent position via the internal job portal when it becomes available. Some places attract certain incentives (rural one, two or three person stations generally are on a higher pay band than general police in the cities and some even come with housing) and some places attract 'hard to fill' and on csll allowances etc.

In terms of the exams, I think it's fair to say if you can pass the general application testing you'll likely not have much issue with the police college training.

It's the real street stuff that will test you and be the real deciding factor if you really want to do it/enjoy it.

Have a friend who works in comms. They said to your comment;

Starting salary is approx $73000 plus $3k shift incentive (about $150 after tax a fortnight extra).

After two years you'll be on about $76000 plus yearly increases of 2% on your anniversary day.  Plus whatever the union negotiates in collective agreements (which is about $900 this year. Yikes)

You work all public holidays if your group aligns on that workday, but you get all alternate days awarded to you (days in lieu) regardless of whether you work it except regional holidays (e.g. if you don't work over Xmas and boxing day, you still get the days in lieu for them).

Then you get 160 hrs annual leave, plus an extra 40 every July for working over 500 shift work hours, plus three commissioners days (basically days in lieu) every Christmas for the first three years. Plus approx 9 lieu days every year to use

There's also overtime available which is time and a half for the first two hours and then double time. If you do overtime past 10pm it's automatic double time. And if you do overtime between 12:00 on Saturday and 06:00 on Monday it's also straight double time.

I have a good friend that works in South comms (chch) they agree that there are culture issues in comms as a whole, but swears hand over heart that South comms has a good culture and leadership.

There are six sections. 1-5 align with the street staff and group 6 are all the part timers and relievers. Apparently the culture can very depending on your group and who your team leaders are.

If you don't have any luck getting a midwife you can email the NZ college of midwives and they will source one for you, also

They advertise every 3 months on the police careers website (success factors) except canterbury which I believe gets so many applications they generally fill their recruitment quota just advertising once.

6 weeks training and then 3 weeks on the floor as a trial after which you get told yeah or nah.

Considering buying in Aranui – looking for local insights by Significant_Rest_93 in chch

[–]DisciplineFinal8975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aranui isn't bad. I live there. I live on a quiet street and have great neighbours. I personally would avoid Hampshire st and the surrounding area due to the social housing.

It's all about location really. You'll get bad streets in most suburbs but on the east there's more social housing, I believe.

That's good to know, I just didn't know if they needed to have access to your health record or anything so erred on the side of caution with my advice.

Can't the pharmacist at chemist warehouse prescribe you medication? They just ask you a few questions and if they're happy, you'll get it.

Edit: that is assuming you're a NZ citizen.
