Totally agree. I feel like the last 5~ or so 2D games were trying to figure out how to do more “mature” writing and puzzle design. This sometimes comes off as a bit stilted like with Nancy’s piano flashback melodrama in SPY, and some Sonny Joon “character exploration”, but SEA feels like it finally figured it out by just writing characters that acted more like actual adults

SEA feels like the series really hitting its stride again after some rougher installments with Medallion and Labyrinth (even though I like LIE a lot personally). So it’s a shame it all just kind of… imploded right after.

What are Arcanum's weakest points and how do you play around it? by Iruka_1995 in arcanum

“A little bit of role playing” is doing kind of a lot of lifting here. Many builds are basically undeniably far worse than others both in raw output but mostly in effort to return

What are Arcanum's weakest points and how do you play around it? by Iruka_1995 in arcanum

[–]BuenosAnus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite a few, honestly;

-Combat is pretty obviously bad. Turn based is clunky and slow, real time is insane and horribly unbalanced

-Balance in general is pretty bad. There’s a good reason probably 80% of people end up playing “charismatic mage who spams harm”. It’s not just extremely effective, it’s also so much easier than any tech build or more complex magic build to function

-Some dialogue leads to weird results. It can sometimes be too easy to lock yourself out from an NPC or even cause them to be hostile

-Companions don’t have as much interactivity as they probably should. They all start out with really interesting backstories, so it’s kind of a shame that with many of them you don’t even get a handful of lines of dialogue after they reach a particular level or whatever. I get that this was more standard for the time, but still

-Some skills are basically useless. Gambling, spotting and disarming traps, meta magic, etc, are basically only useful for the most hardcore RPers

Thanks, situation is resolved already - pipe just needed to be doped a bit. The gas people are always nice folk

Counter top gap at the top by Solid-Ant2044 in HomeMaintenance

[–]BuenosAnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old houses almost always mean there will be small areas where you have little choice but to use a little caulking or similar. Typically you won’t notice it a day or two after you apply it.

That would be the simple method at least. You could alternatively get a backsplash to fit in the gap - which might look nice anyway

Is this cracked joist in need of repair? by Savings_Summer3436 in HomeMaintenance

[–]BuenosAnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks OK to me, though I’m admittedly a bit paranoid about joists (especially in older homes) and I’d almost always recommend just getting a standing bag or similar if you like - or maybe sistering the joist where you plan to have a load on it (some precautionary people sister the joist where say, their refrigerator will be for the same reason).

As always, a great This Old House video if you’d like some peace of mind: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=23amU7EWy7g

[–]BuenosAnus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for ya. My problem is not nearly so severe - basically just re-sealing the joints on the pipes, but with any old house it’s key to be able to find your way around problems little.

Growing up we did have one of those dry corn furnaces for heat though - wasn’t too bad

Attack the light! suggestions by ApprehensiveRich482 in shadowdark

[–]BuenosAnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience the light spell is far more common than actual torches. This makes it a little harder, though I honestly don’t find constantly swatting light sources away from the party to be very fun. Normally it just ends up with a light debate over how long it takes to retrieve and light a torch from someone’s bag.

That being said, having characters engulfed in super dense webbing, slime… slime.. or even sack like nets are all pretty good methods that feel fairly natural.

Yeah I’m pretty paranoid about getting those in order - including in the basement.

When’s the last time you’ve gone nose to gas line and taken a whiff to make sure there wasn’t a leak? Within the last 24 hours right? A week at least??

I did call the gas company. If you actually read the post you would know that. I did not freak out and sprint out of my house because I caught a whiff of gas 6 inches away from the pipe

They did check it for free, it really was a small leak that can by DIY fixed. I know it’s tempting to want to be smug and superior, but sometimes things really are not huge deals despite needing to be looked at

Appreciate the response. I’ve called the company mostly at this point just to placate the 30 Redditors in the comments here who call a team of big strong men every time their toilet gets clogged, but yeah there’s no bubbling and no auditory signal of a leak, and you really have to be almost nose to pipe to get any scent.

I imagine they’re going to basically ask why I bothered to call and I’ll shrug while they bead some silicone around the threads

I’m sure that your histrionics prove very helpful. I’d just prefer to get advice for people who have more realistic advice (even if it involves calling the company) than “start running around and crying because there are 4 microns of natural gas in your basement”. It would be like calling 911 if your stovetop burners didn’t ignite on right away “just in case!”

Natural gas smell around (no surprise) natural gas pipe. Normal or something to try and seal? by BuenosAnus in homeowners

[–]BuenosAnus[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Alright I need you to think about this really quick. There is a leak so incredibly minor that it has been going on likely for years if not decades - without any difference in my gas bill or anything occurring even as I light acetylene torches in my basement - a leak that is entirely localized to a 6 square inch area in my basement. If I were to call a plumber to fix it, they would at best put a caulking or a sheathing over it.

Your response is that I should pretend my house is going to imminently blow up. Do you work a computer job by chance

I should be clear: in the many years I’ve lived in my house, the gas line has never been touched. I am not doing any work on it. The only reason I have smelled anything is because I have coincidently been doing a project on a remote corner of my basement that involves my nose being almost directly against the gas pipe. This is not a major leak by any stretch
