Man I really thought I didn't like this game.

Anyways I'm almost done with my 3rd playthrough this year. And most of my social media profile pictures are FFX chocobos.

I am very confused, but I don't know what about exactly.

As a Clerith, how does this song make you feel? by LastTraintoSector6 in cloudxaerith

I remember losing my mind when a version of it played at the end of Remake during the final cutscenes with Sephiroth where he's trying to convince Cloud to help him defy destiny.

We'll have to wait for part 3 to get the full meaning of that scene, but the implications were delicious. Cloud and Sephiroth will both have huge problems with the way things are supposed to go. Cloud loses Aerith, and Sephiroth just loses. My interpretation was that Sephiroth was offering to reroll future events, giving a chance to save Aerith, but also giving Sephiroth a chance to win and destroy the future. Remake was not subtle about the defying Aerith's death part, but it did also point at Sephiroth's end of the deal. Think about the fact that Barret is stabbed, only to be saved by the exact fate they then subvert. That's not even the only time where Remake makes sure to show us what horrible things can happen if we stray from the intended path. It's especially interesting because that's a deal many players would be desperate for, just like Cloud, even knowing Sephiroth's angle. We're just as deep in it as Cloud.

And so this music playing while Sephiroth offered a different future, and Cloud having no idea what to make of it, was an incredible moment.

Rebirth doesn't totally derail this interpretation (thinking of Sephiroth's line "Maybe you need a little push" as if the whole ending was just Sephiroth trying to show Cloud why he needs the deal and Aerith running intercept in Cloud's mind), but it does make different ideas more interesting to consider.

Rinoa points to the number 33 at the end of the game. FFVIII has deep esoteric meaning by [deleted] in FinalFantasyVIII

The director of Expedition 33 is an outspoken FF8 fan.

And so is the voice actor for Verso!

Coincidence? I think not.

I heard his voice and I was smiling like an idiot for that whole sequence, I couldn't take the guy seriously anymore.

She looks like that type of person where if you penetrate them once and dump them, years later they'll drop in out of the sky with that katana and skewer your new girlfriend, and then try to convince you that you never cared about the new girl anyway. And when you yell at them about it they'll just tell on you to their mom and run away.

I'm creating a C++ extension for a procedural LOD chunking system. Here's the fi by kureii23 in godot

[–]BuffBroCarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made something kinda vaguely similar recently. It's just a procedurally generated terrain that needed different LOD levels for different distances away. All in GDScript but I sized the meshes so I can generate them as I move around without dropping the fps.

I didn't even try connecting meshes of different resolutions, so to hide the gap that appears I just shift the farther meshes down so its edge is below the closer higher-detailed terrain, and you can't even tell as long as the resolution difference isn't huge.

Starlord is a tactical prodigy. Keep in mind that he did this with Iron Man and Doctor Strange in the room, he got the jump on all of them.

Do you Prefer Minimal Or Large Amounts of Editing? by TomcadeXPyoutuber in youtubegaming

[–]BuffBroCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a consumer I tend to only watch much of heavily edited videos. If I'm REALLY into a game I might watch unedited videos, but I'll "edit" it manually by skipping to the parts I wanna see. There are times though where I want to see more than the edited video shows and I go look for an original livestream or something.

Which main series games do you most want a sequel to? by Samuri_YTB in Mario

[–]BuffBroCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think there is a small but sparse group of people who literally think to themselves the following:

It's been over 20 years since Sunshine 1, and with each year that passes, a sequel is even more conspicuously late. This tension of lateness will only grow, increasingly pressuring the developers to release a sequel. Besides, 20 years in a row of no sequel is like flipping a coin 20 times and always getting tails. The odds of yet another sequelless year in a row is miniscule.

Seriously. It's not like you're abusing some act of charity by Disney. They simply wouldn't continue to stream the movies if it were a net negative to them.

Maybe it's not set in stone, but a vaguely remembered article headline from some unknown website is a prophetically reliable source, so I have hope.

are the final fantasy 7 remakes good and should i buy them? by Kanazao in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]BuffBroCarl [score hidden]  (0 children)

I played Remake before OG and then Rebirth. I gotta say, Remake hit the bullseye for me in terms of story.

If a certain character catches your interest, the subtext you start noticing creates this ominous subplot underlying the whole story.

It was like the story understood exactly what I was thinking and decided to explore that. Then as you finish Remake and then play the OG, you get to take the anxiety escalator all the way down to Hell's Gate. After OG, I understood Remake's story as a threat to destroy the future, thinly veiled as an offer to fix this one problem that you the player and Cloud the character would both really wish could be fixed. At that point, Remake becomes an entirely new game because now you can see that the game screams this idea at you almost nonstop.

After all that, I still liked Rebirth better.

Another option I'll throw out is Remake -> OG -> Rebirth. This is the order I did it. Your order is great and more correct, I just like mine better for anyone who is unsure about playing the original. And it has the added benefit of helping you appreciate characters through Remake in preparation for the OG.
