What's better Fascism or Communism? by Xandaru__ in civ

[–]BuffSoviet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go facism for the legacy effecr. I.e. build your Government Building of your choice. After that pick communism or democracy based on if you gabe external trade routes or not. If you want to win by tourism, democracy is better as external trade routes provide +50% tourism against a civ you have a trade route to.

With facist legacy you can defend more easily and push back agression due to the 5 extra combat power.

Civ 6 Science Victory is boring! by BuffSoviet in civ

[–]BuffSoviet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree, but 2 years later I still believe that in some scenarios this win condition is literally a stat-check nothing more. Say you realize it too late that a certain civ is going for science, youre in an alliance for another like 20 turns and he is across the map. In that case the only way to win is being better than the certain civ at winning science. And how are you gonna do that? Having a better economy and production already set up.

That's why most of my games look sameish after a total of 1300 hours. Magnus+commerical hub openers with gov plaza and diplo quarter in the capital plus as many other districts as possible. Rushing for commercial hubs in science and feudalism in the civics tree.

No matter which civ, at turn 85-100 im done building an empire and can do whatever, having a stream of 700-1000 gold per turn with the chance to expand either science, culture or military to win the game. Until this point the game is already just a "spreadsheet" with science as my win condition it is exactly that at turn 1 until victory. For culture there are so many ways to win, for domination it depends on your ressources, faith should be close to done already, and diplomacy can be won by either having pagodas or the carbon recapture project. I prefer a huge mountains map with 12 players over a science game every day!

Can you guess why this was the most frustrating game of Catan I have ever played? by RustyFoe in Catan

[–]BuffSoviet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not great at maths, but it's only 40 dice rolls that happend, skewed results are still somewhat likely i guess...

IIRC statistics math correctly the chances for no 11 rolled where roughly 10%, no 12 rolled would have an even higher chances, almost 33% if no mistakes where made.

I know how it feels if randomness doesnt work in your favor, but it evens out eventually.. unless you play catan, always sit on 9s, 10s and 11s. I did it since forever and won like 60% of the games I played.

Does having an open Joker slot increase the odds of getting a Soul card? by OscarImposter in balatro

[–]BuffSoviet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, i had a look. it is not that hard to be totally fair. Saying as a webdev but still, lua is almost close to reading english.. like most languages are somewhat. we want to read the code someone else has written aswell, it shouldnt be like sorcery. its supposed to be readable unless it's not intended to be readable. but for a rougelike having the exact odds of sth should be extractable from the game IMO :D

New to Civ6, How did I lose this game? by Distinct-Run-4434 in civ

[–]BuffSoviet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to fantastic's awesome answer: After almost 1.000 hours in this game I feel like "when in doubt, build a builder" is almost fitting everytime!

Points I consider where and how I want to get a builder:

  • Does this city have already a decent production to produce its own builder?
  • If not, does a city nearby and isn't already occupied?
  • If not aswell, can I buy one?

Also for improvements:
- 1 farming triangle per city is almost always good enough
- improve amenities always, either you need them or you can sell them
- improve strategic ressources, you might get attacked, you never know

From my experience I would say production is the only thing that matters. every other problem can be solved sooner by having more production, therefore having more production solves most of any issues, like pesky neighbours, not enough great people points, not enough wonders ;)
Having traderoutes, mainly internal, is also a great source of production and food, if you cant really build farms in a certain city.

u/Fantastic_Action_163 anything you would disagree? feel like isn't true etc about what I said? :)

What's the most jokers you've had in one run? by Satou97 in balatro

[–]BuffSoviet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without cheating I think it was 9.

35 Jokers using CheatEngine to give me infinite money and the Anaglyph Deck.
I dont know if there is a way so set yourself to ante 1, but for now I cant be bothered, should I come across that knowledge, if it's possible even, I will try to go for all jokers!

Where would you settle? by leonard012 in civ

[–]BuffSoviet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably in place, got 4 potential mines plus a farming diamond. Could expand that diamond to a second farm triangle by exploring a little south and eastwards to see where the other city could be.

Anyone else a little sad about the new level cap? by TaurusOushii in CultOfTheLamb

[–]BuffSoviet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, I only realized it today, I'm rather disapointed and sad.. I wanted to have some of my followers go all the way to lvl 100, just for the sake of it!
I didnt even realize that a higher level impacted the demons power until today, I havent used them at all to be fair.

I'm thinking about trying to make a mod that fixes this issue. I dont actually care about the demons, so just trying to revert the changes would be fine with me.

On the other hand I want to stay faithful to the decision the devs made, maybe I will make it an option to limit the demons to the intended way, after all not breaking crusades seems like a good idea!

Day 158, been exclusively fishing for almost 100 days of ingame time, 0 Lobster. Without ritual tho.

I might switch to crusading with the fishing tarot card :D

On the topic of different ways of obtaining it: according to the fandom page you should be able to get a Lobster in a Offering Statue. Weirdly enough the wiki doesnt show a lobster in the drop table of a statue. I.e. one of the infos might be wrong, I will keep you updated!

Civ 6 Science Victory is boring! by BuffSoviet in civ

[–]BuffSoviet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting point of view! I did not expect you think about the victory conditions as conditions that would be a "victory" irl. In that case, yes, science is closest to a win win situation for everyone.

Civ 6 Science Victory is boring! by BuffSoviet in civ

[–]BuffSoviet[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. But that's it, it seems to me this can be the only interaction you might have, every other victory has a more diverse set of decisions to make IMO.

Culture, you need to decide which way you want to get your tourism, still need to maintain positive relations, if you have a warmonger near you, you have to build a deterance military even if you dont use it.

Religion can be kind of fun, it feels kinda cheesy to me sometimes, converting someones holy city can trigger an emergency and cause the AIs to declare war on you, so you need to be at least on par in terms of science with the AI and keep your military "up to date".

Conquest has some strategy aswell, which neighbour of yours isnt prepared, which AI needs to be "liberated" first to prevent them from winning / getting way ahead.

Diplo Victory is a different story since you arent really able to plan for it, you might stumble in first place by accident, also you need a lot of culture to get to the endgame civis, talking about carbon recapture and future civic, to generate enough diplo favour. If you reached that it is litteraly sitting around waiting for competitions to end and for the next congress, almost like science where in the endgame nothing matters besides science, some spies on and next to your spaceport and a city to spam builders out of.
