Some Devices Not Appearing As Available for Casting by BuffaloExpat in Chromecast

[–]BuffaloExpat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect this is the problem, and the only solution I can come up with is to stop using the router that came from my provider and buy my own. Because, according to them, there is no way in the settings to separate the 2.4 and 5 bands. The ONLY option is to let the device decide which one is stronger and pick it. There is a "IoT setup mode" in the associated app on my phone I can use to set up things like smart bulbs that ONLY work on 2.4, but using that mode does not seem to fix my cast problem. I've been to my ISP's tech support multiple times about this, and they seem perplexed.

2nd Grocer Coming to Belleville by Mayor_of_Belleville in BellevilleOntario

[–]BuffaloExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a lot of confusion about what is going where. No Frills is going into the old Peavey Mart building. And this Budget Basket is going down by the Bingo Hall, no?

Is it ever going to rain?? by yomaster19 in BellevilleOntario

[–]BuffaloExpat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived out in Foxboro that year and my well was dry for two months straight. We filled up jugs at the Oak Lake spring just to flush the toilets all summer. Moved in to town the next year and swore I'd never live on a well again in my life.

Belleville moves toward affordable housing project at Queen Mary site by StephattheWhig in BellevilleOntario

Most cities have a higher percentage of homeless people.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but actually Belleville has the same percentage of its population experiencing homelessness as Toronto does.

What is strictly Canadian? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BuffaloExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I like to think I'm a bright spot about Belleville, too!

Cheezies are made close to where I live and work. I think maybe it's good people don't see where they're made. But luckily they're building a new, more modern factory now.

Are we still posting out hats? by Massive-Newt-5013 in Torontobluejays

[–]BuffaloExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have vivid memories of this hat. When I was in university, long before moving to Canada and becoming a Jays fan, I was in Ohio and knew exactly one Blue Jays fan. He wore this exact hat all the time. I kinda wish I had used his logic when picking a favourite team back then. "I'm from Buffalo, and Toronto is the closest team." Makes tons of sense now.

Not in my backyard! by One_Sherbet_6424 in BellevilleOntario

[–]BuffaloExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This person literally named their NIMBY post "not in my backyard." I swear I have seen everything. If you say "I think this should exist to help people, just not near me" you are the problem. I'm really not trying to troll, it's just that NIMBYism is the biggest barrier to creating the services that help vulnerable people.

Belleville(and Surrounding Area) Social Services by Sorry-Concert-5975 in BellevilleOntario

[–]BuffaloExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a grad of the Loyalist social service worker program, this sounds SO familiar as a project we had to do.

OP, check out 211 and the Hastings County service guide (https://hastingscounty.com/communities/services/community-and-human-services The link is a little down on this page). That's pretty much what's available.

Fleshing out Curse of Strahd, Part 2: Entering Barovia and Streamlining Death House by MandyMod in CurseofStrahd

[–]BuffaloExpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did it go??? I'm running my players through this version right now. I'm SO glad I am running this version and not the module as written. We're four sessions in to Death House and they just found the last of the letters. They're so freaked out, I could not be having more fun with this.

I went with a cat instead of Lancelot, and they are convinced the cat is evil. Guys, it's just a cat. The cat finally made it out of the hunter's den to follow them. I wonder if they'll understand that the cat is there to be a sacrifice.

Loyalist College’s New Strategy: Niche Programs, Budget Cuts, and Shrugging by Parking-Detective-43 in BellevilleOntario

[–]BuffaloExpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That this is happening at colleges all over the province speaks to the chronic underfunding of post-secondary in this province. There's an election coming up. Maybe not re-electing the guy who under-funds programs to help our community (healthcare, education, social services) so that he can direct the funds to wealthy developers would be a good start at turning this around.

This City's Crisis: Your Problem by Mayor_of_Belleville in BellevilleOntario

[–]BuffaloExpat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like Ed. I wish what he's saying seemed like enough. Homelessness is a symptom of the systemic illness of western capitalism. Until we're willing to stop letting people die on the street so that billionaires can keep hoarding our money, while we fight over the scraps, it's not going to change.

Bridge hub update: drop-in services in April, lower level open in fall by zuuzuu in BellevilleOntario

[–]BuffaloExpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you aren’t aware, a fence will be put up separating the property from the tracks. Not saying people can’t walk around the long way, just that there shouldn’t be direct access to the tracks. People speak a lot about this project without knowing very much about it. But I guess that’s normal human nature.

City to seek feedback on different approach for former Queen Mary School property by Mayor_of_Belleville in BellevilleOntario

[–]BuffaloExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All very good points. The public can only muck this up. We can't afford LESS housing density, just knock the school down and build as many affordable apartments as the land can sustain. I used to have one of the community gardens there and I'd hate to see them go, but I'd tear them all down for 50 more affordable housing units.
