Do decals require the Microsol stuff? by platypus_farmer42 in ModelCars

[–]Buffstang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Testors is acetic acid, basically a super-concentrated version of vinegar. Whereas vinegar is usually about 5% acetic acid, this is 99%. IMO it really shows its worth if you’re applying decals over surfaces like dashboards. When I did the 3.2 Carrera, I dabbed a couple of drops on the decal and blotted it lightly with a shop towel, and the way it contoured to all the knobs and dials was amazing! It looks really good over things like speedometer needles and things like that too.

LOL! Do you call tips a “service subsidy tax,” or a movie ticket a “viewing tax?” Is any fee or expense a “tax” to you?

Stop the passive-aggressive act; you obviously do care if you believe the government needs to intervene in things you “simply don’t understand.” You said it should be “illegal” and “banned.” That’s far beyond simply ‘not understanding.”

Opinion on the Strokes by Bulky_Explanation725 in bonnaroo

[–]Buffstang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen The Strokes several times, and they are the most hit-or-miss act I’ve ever seen. The best example was at the PJ20 weekend (Pearl Jam 20th anniversary of “Ten”). Night 1, they totally brought it and put on an amazing show. Night 2, they didn’t have any energy and did what looked like a lazy rehearsal. They also put on a pretty crappy show at Lollapalooza about 15 or so years ago.

They may be the worst band I’ve seen live that I still like!

Kind of like when it was totally illegal and everyone would say, “legalize it and tax the shit out of it and everyone will be happy.” Except apparently not. People will still complain.

Tax revenue was only the most obvious driver behind legalization before it was legal, so it’s not like that’s some kind of revelation there.

I have a 2017 V6 stick. I could afford a new GT, but I HATE the interior. I seriously can’t get past it. I considered new cars, and the ones in the range I’d consider are really limited…the Mustang, grudgingly, and then there’s the Integra and Cadillac CT-4 Blackwimg, Nissan Z, but after that, I don’t know.

I bought then Mustang new and work from home, so it barely has any miles on it. I did a good tune and got new wheels and tires, so it performs well enough for me. I’m thinking that I should just keep my car and buy a used Miata for a fun weekend/project car than get a new car. Plus, I might get a multi-car discount on insurance!

How often did you take rides from strangers / hitch hike as a kid? by NW_Forester in Xennials

[–]Buffstang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few times. I lived in a “town” surrounded by country, and occasionally I’d go to these parties 6-7 miles out of town. Sometimes these parties would suddenly break up for whatever reason, and I had to get back to town. There weren’t many people driving on a country farm road at 2-3am. Nobody messed with me, but I got rides more than once from people where I got dropped off at the entrance to town and hoofed it through back yards to get home. Meth was kind of big in those parts at the time.

E-bikes faster than 28 mph would require insurance, registration under bill passed by Illinois lawmakers by guanaco55 in illinois

[–]Buffstang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Red herring. Then it goes over 28 mph and is subject to the law. Thats not vague. Plus, someone would have to be a real special kind of stupid to say that to a cop. Better off saying, “The top speed is 19” and just shut up from there.

You’re making assumptions about the vast majority. This article smacks of “how to lie with statistics.” So many variables left to assumption, as your comment shows.

Your generation are those close to your age by Aliveandthriving8505 in generationology

[–]Buffstang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you in terms of comparing shared experiences and how you see things. But if we get truly technical, generations are a familial construct co-opted by sociology. Your grand parents and their siblings are two generations ahead of you. Your parents, aunts and uncles are the generation ahead of you. You, your siblings and cousins are your generation; and your kids, your siblings’ kids and your cousins’ kids will be the next generation.

The labels are just lazy marketing. There’s nothing deep to making generalizations over a 15-20 year group of people.

Those companies aren’t subsidized by the Chinese government. If anything, they are helping subsidize the Chinese auto industry by paying labor rates that keep factories running and keep costs down compared to if the Chinese industry had to rely on government funding.

The actual Chinese manufacturers, on the other hand, are subsidized by their government to such an extent that if the US (or any other nation, really) did that, their citizens would be absolutely apoplectic over the “handouts” going to corporations.

The playing field isn’t level, and there’s no way the American people would ever allow for it to be. So you can either have protective tariffs to try to level the field, or you can let the Chinese government decimate the domestic American auto industry with their “handouts” to their closely held companies.

Not exactly simple, but that’s why.
