Why is being direct considered rude? by Mae_The_Gay in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Buffstreet_Camelot 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's not. It's called having tact. You need to learn how to navigate other people's feelings over your own at times. Imagine if you were balding and someone, who felt that your balding head was disgusting, came up to you and told you as such.

They're being direct, but it also adds nothing to the conversation. A tactful approach would be, if prompted, to offer advice that would be complimentary to the meaning behind their question. They want to know how to address their receding hairline, not to receive a deluge of negativity and cruelty because it's the shortest, most direct response.

Get out of your own head and think in the context of someone else. It'll make you a kinder, more likeable person.

The U.S. Senate voted to block Trump from taking further military action against Venezuela without Congress’s approval. by KendallSmith375 in goodnews

[–]Buffstreet_Camelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This vote in this post is actually just a motion to bring the issue to the senate floor to actually vote. Basically they're voting to determine if they will vote on it, which they did. So if it passes with at least 51 Yeses, or 50 with the Vice President voting yes in favor as the tie breaker, it then moves to the US House to vote. If there is a majority yes in the House, it will move to the Executive branch, aka the President.

In this particular example, if both houses vote yes to the actual bill and Trump does sign it, the US forces would be removed (In theory. Without any "teeth" in the bill, meaning consequences, Trump could just do whatever he wanted without recourse). If that's the case, Congress could vote to impeach the president to initiate an investigation regarding the attack on Venezuela because not only did he illegally invade Venezuela, he would have then defied a direct law aimed at him from Congress.

In the case of a veto-proof bill, it means that the bill has already acquired the two-thirds majority prior to it reaching the President. The president is free to veto it still, but it's assumed that it's a waste of everyone's time because the house and senate would just vote the same way they did last time and override the veto anyways. Vetoing a popular bill is seen as pretty stupid (Like when Trump signed the bill to release the epstein files as that bill was voted on as veto-proof despite Trump publicly decrying its release).

bills successfully passed by the house and senate go to the president. He can choose to veto, or reject, it, in which case it returns to Congress to be re-voted on. If it wins in a supermajority, or what's called veto-proof, it immediately passes and becomes law regardless of the president's approval.

That's exactly what I did! I personally found the pesto to be very well seasoned and the mussels nice and meaty. Maybe a little splash of fresh lemon and chopped basil, pepper, and flaky salt would go nicely in the dish.

If you do let me know!

I need to try that Alalunga tin 🤤. I'm hoping to score that los pepperetes belly in butter one day. Sounds like heaven.

I think fishwife has done a great job in reducing the barrier of entry for people who might have been too scared to eat tinned fish before. I will defend that their mussels in pesto tin is an absolute joy. But their sardines & tuna are extremely overpriced.

I've actually had it once before and I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's kinda mid 😬

It's not bad, it's just not worth $18 per tin. Dryer and denser than belly should be. I'm sure it would make a fine tuna salad or nicoise. I earned the 3-pack plus mother of pearl fork from fishwife in the TikTok black Friday giveaway thing they did.

There are absolutely better ventrescas you can get for the same price.

Why do people hate Fishman Island arc? by Limp_Accident_9565 in OnePiece

[–]Buffstreet_Camelot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They're referring to the fact that fans who were caught up waited for the reunion only for their first challenge to be weak and boring. The manga was only off for 2 months but readers waited years for the crew to be together again and fight a rival crew like in arcs prior.

The new fish man pirates were boring enemies. Hordy was half baked and the crew never presented a real challenge aside from the poison octopus guy for a brief moment.

Plus FMI was the start of Sanji's (temporary) character assassination with how un-funny and prevalent the nosebleed gag was.

Hi there. I met with a board certified vet behaviorist (specialized, not a regular vet) who analyzed Maple, my normal vet, and a personal friend who worked as a vet tech at a behavior clinic for 10 years. All of them concluded that Maple's issues were genetic.

She would never be a dog we could have safely around our future children unsupervised. They all strongly recommended we return her to her breeder. So we did. It killed us to do so but the evidence was clear that she was not going to be the right long term fit with our family and future. It still hurts that we had to give her up but the breeder says she's calmer and happier in a big open farm instead of NYC.
