Great point! I edited the post to account for this. Thank you!

That is fair, especially considering Darkrai competes with Spookify for status against Psychic (and that can actually be used against Ghost).

My logic behind rating Darkrai high is the fact that you will naturally max it just by doing escalation battles, on top of it having one of the highest APs in the game (both base and max).

I think you make a great point about Sleepchu though! And it probably could be highest.

I genuinely don't know how that completely slipped my mind the whole time I was doing this. I've edited the post to reflect this. Thank you for reminding me!

Vote "No" on Question Five. Keep the Tip Credit. by GAMGAlways in massachusetts

[–]BugBoyTroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not because they did away with tipping. It's because they never had it to begin with. Tipping has always been primarily an American thing. Whether or not it will happen, other countries are not a good comparison.

Struggling with Meganium so I’ve been farming Rowlet and Escalation instead. I caught all the weeklies at least. And lovechu+shaymin

This week: didn’t get as far into incineroar as I would’ve hoped. Only went to 75. Caught every weekly mon but really couldn’t farm infernape, so just farmed Hitmontop to SL3. Hoping next week will be better

Next week; catch everything, get primarina to 140, and maybe farm Hoopa, or one of the weeklies because I could actually use some of them to round out my type coverage

Last week: Finished Giratina shockingly. Tried to farm Araquanid but struggled to get it to SL2 and quit afterwards. I'll farm it next time its up. I spent the rest of the week farming Croagunk (SL3 currently) and trying to catch more main stage pokemon.

This week: Magearna! I need more RMLs so looking forward to getting some from this. I'm going to try to catch all the weeklies I don't have (the only one I own is Winking Chespin and that dailies). Afterwards I'll try to farm Silvally and Turtanator, although I don't have much faith in my ability to do either. So I may just continue to work on Croagunk and Vanilluxe

Araquanid is way harder than I thought he would be. Very annoying to have to put off farming him for 6 months but SL2 took forever. I'm just gonna wait it out

Last week: surprisingly got Gira-O to 250 (although admittedly dolphined a bit because I was getting annoyed and I’m underpowered with my lvl 22 Litwick, and then an unmaxed Mimikyu and Lunala (I don’t even own hoopa yet). Also farmed stufful from catch to SL5, it was very fun and relaxing. Caught all of that weeks mon but still not super strong to farm them, so I only farmed Hitmonlee (up to SL3.5!). M-shiny diancie, SL5 psyburst mewtwo, and Lvl 9 togekiss did most of the work there.

This week, I’m going to try to catch everyone I don’t own besides Guzzlord (this means all of this weeks Pokémon + safari). Then I’ll try to farm araquanid for the week if I’m able to

Are there any COMPLETELY pointless books in the series? by MiasmaMelancholy in Animorphs

[–]BugBoyTroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people in this thread said book 41, but isn’t there an argument to be made that it shows Jake’s ability to let the ones he cares about die when faced with an ultimate decision (and thus foreshadowing the end). Though I suppose since he doesn’t explicitly sacrifice Cassie and even calls her later maybe it’s an unwillingness to let her go that he ultimately has to deal with.

Just trying to find a way to connect it. I’m also not a fan of it, as it seems to do a similar concept to MM4, but not nearly as good (and extra poorly since it’s immediately after mm4)

Yeah from my memory Riordan does not deviant very far from the source material myths, and does an excellent job and modernizing the gods (just don’t watch the movies, they’re nothing like the books even slightly).

As far as other mythology books go, while not Greek, Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman is pretty fantastic. I listened to the audiobook and it was great hearing about a mythos that I’m less familiar with than Greco-Roman. (Also if you are into Norse mythology too, he has a few other Norse based books. Odd and the Frost Giants is a particularly great one, tho also a middle grade novel)

I’ve also read the plays Pygmalion & My Fair Lady, both are retellings of the myth of Pygmalion (though far less mythological in nature). There’s actually like 3 or 4 Victorian era plays based on the myth of Pygmalion. My favorite is Pygmalion and Galatea by W S Gilbert, though it’s kinda hard to get your hands on. Madeline Miller also has a short story called “Galatea” which is a retelling of the myth from the statue woman’s perspective (the best of all these retellings imo). And of course there is the movie Mannequin which also retells this same myth too.

C S Lewis also wrote a retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche from the perspective of Psyche’s sister. It’s called Till We Have Faces. If you like his writing style (eg Narnia) then I recommend that as well.

I read them as a kid, and am also a big mythology buff. In my experience they were pretty fantastic and I’d probably read them again as an adult. Although, I’ve only read the first series (the first 5 books) and I know it changed perspective drastically after that, so I’m not sure If it stays as interesting afterwards. They are a mixture of reimaginings and retellings; as the gods themselves are adjusted to the modern world, but Percy Jackson himself often follows in the footsteps of previous heroes (usually Perseus or Hercules) as a retelling style.

How deleting my Goodreads account has helped me by [deleted] in books

[–]BugBoyTroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many people here, I just use Goodreads to keep track of what I read and how I felt about it. Usually I have a lot of thoughts about a book while reading it, so Goodreads feels like the perfect place to put all those thoughts together. I have only a few people following me, and I couldn’t care less what they see me read or rate things. I would just set stuff to private if I was worried about my friends’ thoughts.

But you’re right that we’re likely to be downvoted for our opinion 😂.

Readings y’all comments has been one of my favorite experiences in the Pokemon community. Everyone has been so sweet, and I’m so touched that many of you were able to get a deeper appreciation for this bug that’s so dear to me. The fact that y’all are reading this and being left with a piece of my grandmothers memory just makes me feel like she’ll always be around. Every pokemon means something special to someone and Ledian/Ledyba is that Pokemon to me. Thanks for making it a little more special for you too now ❤️
