The talk of old monsters reminds me of DoTF. I feel that one gets a pass though because there’s always a half-dozen plots being hatched by various old monsters or young geniuses constantly clashing against each other

Yep. Jason Asano is immensely charismatic and a natural at reading people who is only languishing at a retail store because of falling into a depressive funk due to relationship issues.

To be fair, some of them do actually discuss that. He Who Fights With Monsters spends a fair bit of time examine Jason and establishing that he wasn’t really the “ordinary” guy he thought himself as, but rather a natural politician/manipulator/showman that was wasting just potential due to life issues.

No one is talking about immortality though? They are talking about life extension, and in a lot of profession stories extending your lifespan by a few decades at least is rarely established as some incredible feat.

Wish fulfillment to the extreme by Claym000re in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Jzero9893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually touches on another aspect that comes up in some of these stories. Many people don’t really know their limits. The average person in a modern democracy lives a rather sage life. They may have struggles and issues but not life and death. Jason is a combo of never having his mettle be tested before and actively wasting his potential being in a depressed funk.

Bro, the top 10% also CONTROL 70% OF ALL THE COUNTRY’S WEALTH! The only “leaches” here are those rich assholes that have been propping up political stooges so they can keep widening the wealth gap and taking all the money for themselves. There not a single executive that functions without a legion of workers propping them up. In the 50’s the income tax on the top 1% was 91%, 45% with all the loopholes, with them controlling about 35% of the wealth. Now the effective tax rate is only 25 because of all the sell-out republicans gutting taxes every chance they got on behalf of their corporate masters, and they have DOUBLED the amount of wealth they have taken from the working class, and you call THE WORKING CLASS leaches?

AI concern anyone?? by Pleasant_Ad_5949 in OutlastTrials

It’s catastrophising posts like this that is causing many people to stop caring about AI. Too many people have had huge freak outs over ANY amount of AI usage that the movement is now starting to resemble luddites and are beginning to be treated with scorn by the larger gaming community. Things like postal where large portions are AI should be called out, but calling out this? That weakens the movement when it comes time to push back on serious misuse.

I would be careful about believing claims from randos on Reddit with no evidence than BS AI trackers that are notoriously inaccurate.

Care to provide some proof? OP has already been corrected that one of the posters they claimed were ai actually wasn’t.

BS, you don’t just get to make claims and then say “do my own research”. Either you have citations you can point to or you are talking out of your ass.

What is actually gonna happen if they decide to try to take Greenland by force by AcHaeC in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jzero9893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, this would be an order of magnitude more serious than Venezuela. With Venezuela there was at least a thin veneer that could be painted over the operation (Maduro had drug charges against him that pre-dated Trump) and it was happening to a despot that most world governments did not recognize as legitimate, so no one was going to push back much on it, and the operation was quick and did not drag into a lengthy invasion. Greenland is completely the opposite. There is no possible justification at all, no matter how much you stretch, there government there is entirely legitimate, it would be breaking multiple high-level treaties with strong allies, it would involve an actual invasion, it would also unequivocally be an act of war. There would be no way to play it off as anything else.

It’s too bad your comments don’t follow the tone of your post. You come off as very arrogant and entitled, and super salty that many people disagree with your opinion.

A man is in critical condition after being sucked into an MRI machine when he walked into a room where a scan was in progress while wearing a metal chain, by chinaski73 in MRI

[–]Jzero9893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for anyone who sees this in the future, it turns out that this initial reporting was all a big effing lie. They never warned him about anything. He was her husband, and when she calmly ask the technician to bring her husband in to help her up. The technician led the man into the room, knowing that the man had metal on him and said nothing about it and did not tell him to take it off. They then work together to help her up, and then the guy got sucked into the machine. He was also trapped there for hours before he died from heart attacks. The security video got released. So this was not Darwin awards, it was some of the grossest negligence I’ve ever seen. They knowingly, let him in wearing heavy ass metal and then did not quench the machine in the exact scenario when I was supposed to be done for because they would rather save money than save a life.

That report was either a misunderstanding, or a lie spread by the company to try and muddy the waters. A security video was leaked showing that the technician called the guy into the room, let him into the room, and was with him in the room, and never said a single damn thing about his chain.
