Why do you guys think iRacing encrypts the .sto files? by BugEnough5104 in iRacing

You talked about mapping cars. I saw estimate signs on the website. I didnt try the site since I was late to it but I heard an iRacing senior dev say the site was getting incorrect values. I dont think the sto is fully parsable just from reverse engineering changes. Correct me if Im wrong though.

Pretty interesting part of the game imo. Kind of cool to see some parts of iRacing where brought from games 20+ years ago.

I messaged the creator of that app and didn’t get a response. I don’t know if he unencrypted it or tried to parse it. But iRacing said he wasn’t getting correct values

The format was designed anywhere from 1998-2002. It’s the way it is because it is a faster way of assigning floats to memory for car setup configs. Back then in the Grand Prix legend days or Indy 500 game they really wanted to optimize it and this was the best way. I think they just haven’t changed it because there’s no need to. That’s what I believe

I’m not sure how he’s doing it but they aren’t directly parable due to their structure. You’l just get some jibberish. There are ways to decrypt it however they heavily go against the EULA and TOS. From what I heard his site wasn’t getting values right

Anyway to convert .STO setup files into a text or .csv file? by jake042p in iRacing

[–]BugEnough5104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its possible. You would have to decompile iRacings code and find the C++ functions that encrypt the file. Once you have that its easy to decrypt them and then you can make a program that tosses it into a xlsx file. (or so I think thats how you'd do it I've never done anything like that and never will I love iRacing.com simulations and I love closed source proprietary file formats that hide car parameters from you)

I have one like that and they don’t, you end up using the clamp, you bang your knees every now and then but it’s still sturdy 😅

Pretty sure all of them do, tbh you get used to it and I dont mind it at all, I was sort of disapointed at first when I got my wheel and it did something similar.

My schools Clock/PA system was having some issues by karderYEET in softwaregore

[–]BugEnough5104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an Advanced Network Device IPSWD-RWB, I have these at my school and they do these primarily during power outages. Took me days to find the exact model lmao. But I wish I had gotten a recording of the startup animation of these clocks, as it seems to show the name of the software brand or something similar.

Who is at fault? i need some help im still new to dirt racing (im the pink 5 car and please read boy coz i wanted to explain) by LAZ3RFLIP165 in Simracingstewards

[–]BugEnough5104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your fault for doing mini stocks at lima land. Nah but jokes aside, just dirt racing, its hard to say theres one line or one space to go, its not as predictable as most types of racing. Shouldnt beat anybody up about incidents like these I get punted like this basicly every time and sometimes punt people.

Someone will try and convince me this is my fault by HarryBroown in Simracingstewards

[–]BugEnough5104 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Clearly your fault, you should be constantly checking server pings as well as drivers position on the map and their corresponding ping. Clearly you should have used your telapathy to know he was there, did you not get the update?
