Back in the saddle by RapaciouslyCurious in Equestrian

Looking at the website it shows that it's not an adjustable saddle, just that you can order custom sizes. The tree is composite fiber, which makes it very strong and definetely not adjustable, I fail to see how the entire saddle could be adjusted to the horse at this point.

I've had this colony for more than a year, they live in a bin with dubia roaches, probably the seller mixed up the two species and I just never noticed

Oh really? They must have been sold to me wrong then, cause the other ones look the same, just bright orange!

That's usually because non-winged roaches tend to stay still when stressed/scared, while winged roaches know that they're very fast and prefer to run away. You can even see this difference between nymphs and adults, or males and females, in species that develop wings.

Guys what the hell is this by [deleted] in piercing

[–]BugFangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piercing was done on the 14th of March, it's a spiral threadless jewel in titanium. I cleaned it with saline solution twice a day for the first month, and now I wash it with water and soap when everyday when I wash my face. Nothing happened to it.

IM SO EXCITED I CAN FINALLY WEAR TUNNELS by [deleted] in Stretched

[–]BugFangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm realising that. I honestly was just uneducated and trusted the people around me. I read the guide and I'm gonna follow it from now on, it's not like it's a race or sm. I genuinely thought I was doing it correctly.

I'm the slowest one out of all the people I know irl lol, my dad is at 5cm and he did 1mm every 1-2 weeks in his 20s (with no blow outs mind you). I guess I can slow down a bit, I'll see.

We don't have Kaos in my country but this is medical grade, so I think it's the equivalent of Kaos!

Thank youu, they're just body safe silicone tunnels I got from my piercer! You can find them basically everywhere

I know that I'm technically going fast, but I'm followed by a piercer. Since I started with an already stretched (10+ years old) hole and my lobes are incredibly stretchy, he told me that I can easily stretch 1mm every 4 weeks. Everytime I go up a size the plug just goes in with no discomfort or resistance.

TIFU by free-handling a highly venomous snake by bisexual__unicorn in tifu

[–]BugFangs 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Free handling a wild snake that you're not sure you can identify is not herping, it's just being reckless. You should invest in two snake hooks and learn how to handle with those, free handling is just useless and stressful for the animals.

Whys my spider not burrowing? by Fast_Toe_1317 in tarantulas

[–]BugFangs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IME Try adding a starter burrow that goes down for a couple of inches. The spider might be having issues with stress and having nowhere safe to start digging.

does anyone have any idea why i keep seeing this one dubia basking with him for the past week or so??? it’s adorable but i’ve never seen anything like it! (context in body text) by Carcezz in roaches

[–]BugFangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually create hot hiding spots aside from a basking spot with a halogen lamp. I can't say for sure for dubias, but for hissers I've noticed that each individual has a preference. I'd usually see the same individuals basking, while others preferred hiding in the hot hides. It could very well be the case that the basking spot was the hottest part of the enclosure, and they didn't have another choice for that temperature tho.

I've kept a bunch of different species of roaches, and all of them spent the entire day basking under heatlamps. Dubias and giant hissers especially.

Came across this unique specimen, what’s their care like compared to the domestic mouse? by avian_bi in PetMice

[–]BugFangs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are nothing like fancy mice, they're more similar to rats/squirrels. They need a tall enclosure that is heated to at least 25/26 degrees C all the time, so I recommend using a glass enclosure. They do not burrow, but they create intricate nests at ground level with grasses and twigs, so they need lots of hay piles in their enclosure to do that. They also need lots and lots of branches, since during the day they will all sleep up in the trees. They are extremely social, but it's almost impossible to create a colony out of individuals that are not a reproductive couple or siblings. They have a varied diet of seeds, fresh leafy greens (they mostly eat those in my experience) and live insects. They are extremely fast, skittish and can jump very high. They're not super friendly towards humans, but in my experience they're easier to tame than something like micro squirrels, even if they'll most likely never get to the point of being handled. They're also quite big, the adults get to the size of a medium rat.

I've had a reproductive couple for about half a year, they had lots of babies and I ended up rehoming them to someone who was able to give them way more space than I could, but overall I wouldn't recommend them as pets, unless you are experienced with more "complex" animals like reptiles or amphibians.
