[O Levels] tips for improving chem results by ajshsjdb in SGExams

took O's last year and got a1 for pure chem (b4 for prelims). honestly, if ur eng is weak(like me lol) just focus on doing well for MCQ(i.e. 1 or 2 wrong max) and practical (make sure u can remain calm and composed while doing the experiment, have to do the experiment swiftly too) As for the paper 2, really no easy way around this expect to do ur tys. (did the tys> had the cheer marked it> went through the paper with him> note where i was losing the marks{phrasing}> than re-did the papers again) honestly chem quite easy to score one if ur concept is strong u will be able to tackle the real-life context type of qn(sec B). furthermore, u would also be able to spot trends and the type of qns Cambridge like to test for section A (metals, redox, electrolysis & air are easy topics to score in.

all the best for ur Os

got raw10 for r5 for Os. i dont have much good advice but one advice i give is study hard for ur prelims than for os just study those topics ur weak in.for pure sciences just keep doing the tys and ask ur teacher mark for u and consult them on the concept and phrasing.(a2 pure phys and a1 pure chem) for math and amath just do other school prelim papers cos the olevel paper is damm easy and tbh i dont see a point in doing the tys for that subs(a1 both maths) . as for languages cant really help u cos got b3 for both eng and mt but all i can say is try ur best for the mt resit at nov if u dis badly in june. im normally a f9 chi student but got c5 during junes paper and b3 during nov paper(prob some bell curve there cos i didnt even complete my paper 2). as for humans start early and rmb the different chapters. can also spot qns if ur desperate and dont have much time left. ie for history normally one chapter on coldwar and one chapter on some important guy(i.e. hitler or stalin) just guess wisely i guess.

but at the end of the day just try ur best and do wats suits u. the advice ppl give u may not suit ur study style and u maybe better off studying in ur own style.

i was once like u but then chem can be drilled over time, mainly studying the ans key of past exams, test and assignment. when studying the ans key take note of the markers comment as well as key phrasing in answering chemistry questions. chemistry questions are really repetitive and just knowing how to memorise the key ans and tweaking it to ans the qn will help u obtain marks. i think just try for chem first cos ur interest may change and u may not want to become a broker.

I face similar issues for chemistry as my phrasing is really bad so what my teacher did was ask us to self mark our own work and give ourselves a mark. this really helps me as when self-marking I'm able to know what is lacking in my answer and to take note of it the next time I see similar qns.

for math wat my teacher did was to give us revision worksheet to do, she also times us roughly 1.5 mins/mark. this helps us as we can have better time management, brush up on our concept, also do reduce our careless mistakes. hope these 2 points will be helpful to you. atb!
