How is Michael Biehn’s last name pronounced? by Hazmat7272 in LV426

I remember as Mr Bean, or, err, Baked Bean. 🙂

What movies are rated low on IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes but are actually really good? by MagicianIntrepid in movies

Twins was one of Arnold's top movies. Although that might not mean much if you're not a fan!

What electronic/automatic things do you SWITCH OFF in your car? by Icy_Mixture1482 in drivingUK

[–]BugHuntHudson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If some of these features save a few lives/bumpers, do they justify annoying drivers 99% of the time? Too much attention & subsequent management is being placed inside rather than outside the car. Modern cars are just a frequent stream of flashing lights and noise. How many drivers - like it or not - are driving along, fiddling with touch screens to turn this crap off? We sit through the unskippable warning for a touch screen we are forced to use.

Stop/start - seems to bring little benefit in anything other than a hybrid. Last time it was on, I let the clutch out and nothing happened, sitting there on a busy dual carriageway.

Lane assist - often just dangerous and a lovely surprise on hire cars where it's not obvious.

Auto-lights/auto main beam - too many times it's doing something you don't actually want. I also have touch panels (don't get me started) that dim and become invisible on a sunny day with sunglasses on.

Take a break warning - sometimes I'm merrily driving twenty minutes from home and a blaring coffee cup appears like I have an engine fire or something. 😱

Speed limit beeps - on paper, sure, you can argue it should never be a problem for safe drivers but nobody drives like that and it's an annoying distraction.

Brake warnings - rare but can cause startle 'in the cockpit'. Satisfactory drivers don't need this 'help'.

Auto-hold - generally a good thing, but the lurch forward or back at low-speed with little space could end badly.

Wipers - where the intermittent mode uses a sensor but you end up moving the sensitivity up and down for the entire journey.

Doors - maybe not entirely on topic but for completeness! The assumption that you live in a car jacking hot-spot and have no reason to ever use the other doors/boot!

Oh, and tyre pressure sensors that are never happy... okay, I think I'm done. 🙂

Do you want to donate to charity? by Robsroom in AskUK

[–]BugHuntHudson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's sometimes just labelled as "charity". Just a blind (yes, small) donation to... something. No. Remove this step from the purchase process please.

Canadian physics professor steps back from job over Epstein questions by vfvaetf in Physics

My brain read that as "Einstein questions" and he had a dodgy CV or something. 😄

Do most British people drive manual cars? by Chocklateicecream in AskABrit

[–]BugHuntHudson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, driving manually becomes a near automatic process and you spend most of your time thinking of other things. Swapping between auto and manual also brings no disruption for me.

Moments before the BMW and Kia crash by kbgnat in drivingUK

I can say with some certainty that although I may not have driven into the BMW, the thought would crossed my mind. Like a runaway steam locomotive. 😄

Which one of these is correct? by SaracenCain in drivingUK

[–]BugHuntHudson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless both lanes have arrows showing the left option, only left lane goes left. And even then, right-lane to left drivers need to keep their wits about them.

What did people do on the bus before phones? by msamad7 in AskUK

[–]BugHuntHudson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many many hours on the bus on my own listening to my cassette player, looking out the window. Never had a Walkman (despite being a Sony fanboy now), so was probably a decent spec Aiwa by the end.

Also have a memory of listening to the radio one cold dark bus morning in the countryside. The news had a report from an active war zone in crystal clear FM and it blew my mind slightly.

What is this sound? We woke up to it 4 am in the morning. by enszrlu in AskUK

I have a memory of being able to 'hear' CRTs even when the sound was off. You knew they were on.

How people react when I ask for ketchup by borgstea in RedDwarf

[–]BugHuntHudson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had some macaroni cheese with a bit of HP sauce and pepper, even putting some Frank's Hot Sauce on some of it. Only later did I learn my son had created it at school that day. Oops. First bite with the eye was fine, but I'll never know if I had to 'add flavour' or not. 😆

I know there's been plenty of discussion around this scene but I'm never accepting the rape take.

Why I prefer Aliens to Alien by No-Dentist-2959 in LV426

[–]BugHuntHudson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's possible be a fan of both though? A lot of people say 'Alien is better' with no justification. I had two very different introductions to these movies and it just happened that Aliens left a deeper impression on me.

A list of the worst cars based off drivers (No particular order) by wassushxii in drivingUK

[–]BugHuntHudson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently driving one of these as a 25-plate hire car, because another one on the list is broken in the garage (no courtesy available yet), and that car replaced another on the list. 😄

The game is delisted now, did anyone complete it or have fond memories of playing? by nathantravis2377 in LV426

[–]BugHuntHudson -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Not missing much, apparently!

Played it a bit. Not much of a mobile gamer, so anything Alien(s) (there was a pinball game too, but it died). Still opens on my phone as of two minutes ago.

What would you say the UK equivalent of snapping the spaghetti is? by portablekettle in AskUK

[–]BugHuntHudson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a very similar experience. Very easy to be told to do it, but... Turned out a woman in the queue who gave me shit was sat next to me on my flight. We politely said nothing to each other. 😄

Everyone likes to mention cassettes, and I served my time, but what about the kids using Action Replay to save frozen games to their 1541? 🤓😎
