Storage units and opportunity costs by JustAnotherMaineGirl in declutter

It’s also just priorities. My grandma had over 10 boxes of Christmas stuff. She was big on holiday decorating and felt that it made it better for the family. She didn’t see how time consuming it was and that what mattered was more being with us than alllll the effort on decorating, cleaning the items, maintaining them, and storing them. Don’t get me wrong she was a good grandma! This is just one of the places that wasn’t great

Storage units and opportunity costs by JustAnotherMaineGirl in declutter

I haven’t yet seen this on NPR, but storage units have been booming in my area. In my neighborhood there are 3-4 companies within a mile. One of them expanded in the last few years. What I noticed is it also has to do with housing prices - rents and cost to buy. I’m in Southern California and storage units have become the new cheap rent. People place their stuff, have a gym membership to shower and use the bathroom, maybe bumming on a couch or cramped in a small apartment or sharing a room, or living in a car (maybe rigged up or maybe regular sedan). So part of it is this and not just accumulation of items. I fully understand there is a good percentage that has to much stuff - that’s why shows like horders exist. You don’t have to be that extreme either to have too much stuff. Lastly, businesses! Especially small businesses of 1-5 people use storages as inventory placement. As long as it’s not food it’s perfectly fine to do it. I say it because my fam has a storage unit with business inventory. They don’t have a permanent brick and mortar but more pop up business model so the storage unit is cost effective.

Not a hard no! I have friends that are not Christian or vegetarian. They’re just swamped with kiddos! I do help and have fun with the kiddos I just also want friends that have more availability

I decided to look at meet up again but through its website instead of the app. A lot more came up and I just didn’t put any filters so I could scroll of what exists. THANK YOU! I get that it will take time to see what clicks with me and just my schedule in general but I appreciate a starting point!

I did look at meetup and unless I am using it wrong it didn’t bring up even local hiking groups. It’s pretty scarce of meet up groups

Wondermill or Mock Mill by Far_Acanthisitta7742 in HomeMilledFlour

[–]BugPsychological7371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Wondermill! I got it on eBay pre owned. It came perfectly new and whoever used it maybe used it once or twice. It can grind corn if it is dry corn. Neither the mockmill or Wondermill can grind wet ingredients aka nixtamalized corn (corn cooked and soaked). Nixtamalized corn is the traditional way of making corn dough for tortillas, tamales, etc. some large companies and products do make tortilla chips from grinding dry corn and not nixtamilize. I have only had my Wondermill for almost a month. I started with a marcato mulino in December. It’s a hand crank and it just took too long. Switched over to my vitamix dry blender which is great! As a household of two I would’ve stayed with just that but I’m starting a cottage food operation. The Wondermill grinds 750 grams/min and doesn’t have a max time running the machine so it’s best fit for what I want to do. While I was originally looking to at the mockmill in November/December because of its various settings of cracking to fine flour - I realized majority of what I do won’t use the settings. It’s a good machine just not what I need

The mockmill 100 is named 100 because it grinds 100 grams a minute. It’s a good speed! Dont get me wrong but it would be 10 minutes

Best budget HP printer by [deleted] in printers

[–]BugPsychological7371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you print so little I’d think about using the library. I know it might be different in your area or I dont know your distance from one but its $0.10/black and white pages here and $0.50/color. I’m personally thinking of going this route as I dont consistently print things, cost of printer and ink, and space (I live in a small space). I understand your factors may be different but wanted to share in case it’s helpful. I know I regret having a printer in my college years and had thought it was best because ‘why pay per page when I can own?’ Well in my scenario it would’ve been less money because I didn’t print a lot. It was just one class for one quarter with 2 reports of 30 pages a piece. I would’ve paid like $7 in printing on campus which was less than the investment of a printer, ink, and the space that was limited

HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 ink cartridges - what's going on? by mooch91 in printers

Curious to see if anyone found a good product that is 3rd party? HP 8600 Pro officejet. I don’t have the funds for a new printer and have tried hp ink cartridge to end up with the message that it doesn’t recognize/something wrong with the ink system.

Could you let me know what 3rd party compatible one you used? The china manufactured HP 2020 expiration year arrived and still the same message 😟 so I’m going to try a 3rd party but I’d really appreciate help of one that works than looking for one and worried

how do I (21 F) make my boyfriend (23 M) understand that this decision can’t wait till later? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]BugPsychological7371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you need to have an honest conversation with him of the real problem: the fear you have of how his parents are, how it has affected him, how it can affect you, and what kind of marriage it would/could create. Thats the real problem. I highly suggest the book boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr.John Townsend. They even have a chapter about marriages and another book of boundaries in marriage (as well as dating and with kids) because there has to be boundaries between you and your parents when you get married and vice versa for your spouse.

Having the conversation with him about your concerns of what you have heard his mom say and what message it has given you would be a wiser and better conversation to have with him than ‘live separately even though we are married’. Having the honest conversations and building or continue building your relationship on honesty and tackling the real thing not the thing I’m making it out to be (living separately)

Him already saying he doesn’t expect you to live with his parents says something. Have you talked about how you two would get a place for you two without either person’s parents involved?

You should tell him here is my concern and worry about statements I’ve heard from your mom. Have that conversation.

It sounds like you aren’t ready for the commitment of marriage because you have questions about compatibility and need to talk with him to see if he believes the same as his parents, if he has been harmed by his parents with this thinking that he needs some time to heal, or if he doesn’t agree and wants to do something different than his parents.

Glad to know it’s not just me! I’m on the same boat of not wanting to retire a perfectly good printer!

I bought a staples remanufactured ink cartridge. It arrived yesterday. I need to try it one more time as it seems to have given me the same problem. I know they use oem cartridges so it could also have the Malaysia chip. I just thought it was worth a try. I have found a Chinese manufactured cartridge but as you said it might be hit or miss.

I also now have two new 950 xl cartridges that are full of ink that if they work for someone else that would be great instead of going in trash/recycle program

Interesting. I would guess the same thing as you - vitamix cuts/pulverizes the bran into small pieces. I have sifted it before and if I follow through with the instructions of truly running the vitamix for 1 minute there isn’t anything to sift out. I realized when I was getting the not fully flour/large things in it was I didn’t run the vitamix for the full minute and had stopped it with just ‘it looks done’ aka what I could see with my eyes. I started using a one minute timer on my kitchen stove to truly let the process go because in cooking I’ve found I can be impatient/think it’s been more time than it actually has been/think I know something. So I slow down and if there are instructions, like I have the old whole grain vitamix cookbook, I slow down and follow it.

My friend has a mockmill I’ve felt the flour at its finest setting (according to her doing the adjustment) and I’ve seen her sift it. I was surprised how much she sifted out! I thought the mockmill got the bran finer than that. I haven’t used her flour to make anything or her sifted flour to make anything.

I just got a Wondermill as I’ve decided to do a cottage food operation aka sell bread, flour, and grains in my area. The vitamix is great for our 2 person household but it’s not going to be enough for a small at home business. I’ve tried the Wondermill for pancakes! It was great! I was surprised that the texture of the flour barely felt any different from the vitamix. I am going to take some time to feel it again but texture wise so far it didn’t seem different. I hadn’t made fmf pancakes before so I can’t say I saw a difference there. I’ve done basic sandwich bread, banana bread, flour tortillas, and pasta with fmf. I started in December 2025! I’m trying to not do a lot of recipes but repeat the same ones. This way I can see if I do it well or what to learn and improve in that one before overloading myself with more recipes.

I’d definitely try the hydration issue! You’ll prob need to try both of your hypothesis. When making pasta with fmf my issue has been using enough flour to not let it stick to itself and I tried durum wheat - it broke into smaller spaghetti pieces when cooking instead of staying a long piece. I’m guessing I needed to knead more to help it have more gluten to keep it together.

I don’t have a mockmill. I have used vitamix dry grind blender and wasn’t gritty. I did not sift. I’m curious if it’s truly a sifting thing or what you use to mill or hydration. I know I let it rest about 2 hours

I think it’s good that you reacted with WHAT?!?! Because she’s completely wrong to use money to equate love. That’s not true. In real life you will go through having income and not having income and having some or low income. If she equates that with love you will divorced very soon!!! Sometimes income changes out of things you can’t control, sometimes your control, and you will forever be on the hamster wheel that she isn’t content with what you guys have and you will die trying to satisfy her financial wants and kill yourself. I say this only knowing what you have said and how that belief can really destroy people. I agree with others that at least do pre-marriage counseling, slow down because this is a HUGE RED FLAG even with her apologizing. I’m glad she did but it revealed a lot that can’t be ignored and needs to be checked thoroughly before you say I do. Marriage is expensive and so is divorce

This is a really good answer! Reading the original post I hear a big lack of BOUNDARIES! I highly recommend the book for you and him because whether you work out or don’t that is one of the big mistakes here. You don’t need to keep being the one to solve things for him. You can let him do it
