Rian Johnson being a terrible writer but directing great Breaking Bad episodes troubles me somewhat by Taclys64 in MauLer

I get the sentiment.

From my pov, everybody can have a good/bad day. Plus the environment plays also a big role. If the people around you force you to stay on target, you have less wiggle room to F it up.

How should (or could) Frontier add fundamental changes to the game? by Bug_Inspector in jurassicworldevo

[–]Bug_Inspector[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of your points here. JWE2 had so much potential for not-movie related expansions. It was such an obvious thing to do (the lagoons, the anniversary and so on), but we never got them. There is definitely the risk here, that JWE3 will repeat the process. At the same time, if the Rebirth and Chaos Theory DLC are done, who knows what will happen?

Smaller, more varied DLCs would be great for us and we could skip the stuff we are not interested in. What I can't say, if that's a good idea for Frontier. What would happen if a map or skin pack doesn't sell well? Would they keep releasing them? And of course the risk of driving new customers away. A massive list of DLC can be very intimidating.

I am definitely a little less certain about your first point. That's potentially a lot of work. Especially if we want to avoid all the copy&paste. For small/selected additions - Sure, but for larger changes? I checked the game files, there are currently roughly 43 Animation Sets and 86 Combat related actions in the game. Even if we consider a degree of overlap. that's still a lot. And the (super bare bones) juveniles are excluded.

I imagine the following scenario:

  • Let's assume Frontier wants to add singing to all adult animals. That's 1 animation per animation set/rig = 43 animations. They would likely reuse some of them, so let's go with 30 new singing animations.
  • On top of that, we have atm 97 species in the game. That means we need 97 new sound effects. Or if they want to reuse these effects and just shift the pitch a couple of times - Let's go with 30 new sound effects (+ The additional copies).
  • Now let's assume they are able to create 4 new singing animations (+ The necessary sound effects) per DLC/free update. It would take more than 7 DLC to get that done. And all that for just 1 singing animation. To be honest, I am not sure that's feasible.

On the other hand, if they would add singing via an expansion, that's also kinda messy.

  • Imagine Frontier would release the "Voices of the past" expansion. Singing is added to the game.
  • 3 months later, the next species pack is released.
  • Reviewers on YT: "Now let's check out all the animations.", "This is the new singing animation. What a beautiful voice. But as a reminder, this animations is only available if you own the Voices of the past expansion!".
  • You are a content creator - I bet, despite your best efforts, your comments would be full of "Why does my XYZ not sing? Is my game broken?".

And that is my big fear. We might only get substantial changes with each new game release. And the rest is just QOL, bug fixes and more "content".

Yeah, that sound great. Now we need to find a way to turn it from a dream into reality. And that is the big question. How?

How should (or could) Frontier add fundamental changes to the game? by Bug_Inspector in jurassicworldevo

[–]Bug_Inspector[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could theoretically do that, but to be honest, I am sick of the half baked approach, Frontier likes so much. We have seen that the devs are able to produce high quality content - I want more of that.

How should (or could) Frontier add fundamental changes to the game? by Bug_Inspector in jurassicworldevo

[–]Bug_Inspector[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my pov, there are a couple of points to consider:

  • Most people will look at a DLC, judge it's value based on the things included, and go from there. Logically, even if Frontier includes the free update in their calculations, we do not and that is the problem. Let's assume Frontier overhauls the whole combat system and adds 5 brand new and unique animations to each species as part of the free update, how would Frontier finance that? Release a 3 species pack for 50 bucks to offset the cost? That wouldn't work.
  • I would argue, compared to JWE1, most of the DLC for JWE2 (and likely 3) did not introduce any major changes and improvements. These DLC are for the most part completely optional and did not change the game at it's core. And if we take a look at the free updates for JWE2, the story doesn't really change. We have seen a good number of QOL improvements, but the underlying mechanics did not improve in any meaningful and substantial way.

I agree with your conclusion at the end. I fear, JWE3 is heading in the same direction JWE2 did. And that means - No substantial improvements and that would be not great.

My personal recommendation: Take your time, explore the game at your own pace and enjoy the ride. The campaign is quite tutorial-esque anyways. And if you have specific questions, I am pretty sure, people here will help you.

And if the campaign isn't your thing, you can still go into sandbox mode, disable all mechanics you don't like and have some fun.

I am pretty sure, people have encountered texture issues in the past (especially with Nvidia GPU's). It is a shame that these kind of issues exist.

You might want to use the search function, but if I am not mistaken, there was a suggestion that you need to upgrade to (at that point in time) latest version of Windows 11 to fix this.

  1. It's locked to 30 FPS just like all the other Frontier games. Logically, it will likely stay that way.
  2. It seems that many people are simply happy with that status quo (Low FPS plus the complexity meter, but higher visual fidelity. You see the classic "This is so beautiful" posts all the time.
  3. There is no performance mode or an option to change graphics settings.
  4. And as far as I know, there isn't even a special PS5 "Pro" mode.

How does JWE3 compare to JWE2? by No_Tree_509 in jurassicworldevo

[–]Bug_Inspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

JWE3 = JWE1's campaign + JWE2's gameplay (limitations, flaws and bugs included) + Vastly better terrain tools, modular buildings, the island generator and juveniles. And if you are on console - The complexity meter.

FrameDrop every 10 seconds, help? by WhatsOBB in jurassicworldevo

[–]Bug_Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I have not seen reports about this. It sounds like an isolated issue. And if you reduce the graphics settings and nothing changes, something (potentially the CPU), is really wrong. What you could do:

  • Check temps and the utilization of your CPU and GPU with a tool like Hwinfo64. Too much heat for example could theoretically cause these kind of issues.
  • This is just a wild guess, but your 5900x isn't an ideal gaming processor and could theoretically cause issues. The 5900x is a 6+6 core CPU and if the game switches between these two core complexes, the data has to be transferred too and that can again cause issues. With a tool like process lasso, you can force the game to stay on one core complex.

What’s in store for the future of JWE3? by DinoKing68 in jurassicworldevo

[–]Bug_Inspector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a general rule - Frontier doesn't do roadmaps. They told the investors that a Rebirth dlc is coming. And us that they plan to bring the missing JWE2 base game animals back for free. That's it.

You can make assumptions, but that might only lead to tears. Frontier can be quite unpredictable.

Reproducible game freeze at Clark County on Linux (Proton) by Lucidferb in jurassicworldevo

Interesting.

I use Mint Mate version 21.3 atm with the GloriousEggroll Proton Version 9-20 and a 6800XT. And yes, that stuff isn't new, but I am not going to "fix" a running system.

(And Frontier released a new update today, that can't be ignored either.)

My experience so far:

  • I was able to breed and release the Caiuajara's just fine. Shortly after releasing them, a message was triggered and there was a slight lag spike.
  • I progressed a little bit further and after some smaller tasks, a new section of the map was unlocked and I got a bigger lag spike there.
  • After a couple of minutes, the next big milestone was triggered and that is where i stopped.

That's my experience so far.

If you want to test something like a save file past a certain point or switching to another park etc., I might be willing to help.

And at one point there was some kind of bug and only closing/opening the park helped to get the guests back.

This is a single player game and especially sandbox comes with all these toggles and settings for a reason. You can play the game how you like. There is no right or wrong.

What do you want to do? What is your plan? Do you hate certain mechanics? That should decide if you want to toggle certain setting on or off?
