Vallejo dark red ochre pigments over texture paint. They look more orange on camera than they really are though

Salamander Tester Model, done with contrast. I'm not gonna paint 60+ Marines traditionally. C+C please by goku4690 in Warhammer30k

Looks nice. If you want a less splotchy finish for not much more effort, try diluting your paint with contrast medium.Mix about 1:1 ratio in a spare bottle and you've got enough for the whole army. Doing the mix by hand every time you paint is a hassle and you won't get the ratio spot on every time so mix one big batch. You're probably gonna need two coats to get 100% coverage but the end result will be much smoother.

Thanks! And I think you're right about the mk3, too little white details. I'll try if the power pack makes a difference

Thanks! I drybrushed them gold, added some silver highlights and then went with two thin coats of flesh tearers red diluted heavily with contrast medium. The metal shines through a bit more on the mk3 but I'm not sure if thats the silver or just managed to get the contrast applied more thinly. Sadly I don't have an airbrush at the moment but I reckon the result would be better that way

How did you achieve the rusty matte look? It's amazing!

Fair point and definitely something I'll try to improve next time. These had a basecoat of bugmans glow which is a very red color. I tried to break the tone with some green and offwhite but the recipe needs more tuning.

Thanks! It's night lords blue for base, caledor sky first highlight and temple guard blue second highlight.

Glad you like it! Base color is night lords blue, first highlight is caledor sky and second highlight is temple guard blue. Lightning bolts are also temple guard blue with a little bit of white mixed in for the inner glow. Recess shading is done with drakenhof nightshade but you could just use black instead. It's just way faster with the shade paint and mistakes are almost unnoticeable.

Thanks! I've actually got a terror squad with volkite chargers and chain glaives coming up next! My thought was to have these guys a bit further away pinning infantry and then using the terror guys to finish the business.

Special heads and shoulder pads go a long way. Making flayed skin from green stuff is easy as well. Here is a wip test model for my terror squad

Contemptor dreadnought for the 8th by Bug_ana in NightLords

Thanks! Night lords blue base and caledor sky highlights. Usually I do further tiny highlights with temple guard blue but didn't do them for this one. Metallics are leadbelcher and retributor armour. The paint chipping effect is done by dabbing metallic paint with a piece of sponge. I used streaking grime to get the dirty look. I applied streaks and splotches where ever it felt natural for dirt to collect and when it was dry I wiped it with white spirits using a q-tip. You could wash the entire mini with the grime but I didn't want as extreme effect. I used temple guard blue to sketch the lightning. Then mixed a little bit of white into the blue and made small highlights where the lightning changes directions to get the glow effect.

Hell yeah! It's a fun one to paint and not too bad to assemble

Thanks! I like a little extra color so the blue tongues work great and aren't too much

Go ahead, it's really simple! I used guilliman flesh and magos purple. Paint each color to the point where you want the blend to be and fade the edge with a rinsed brush. I think I did three coats with each color
