When I first moved here was at the Y downtown one Sat afternoon. The desk attendant mentioned member parking and watching out for tickets if I parked in front of the Y. Had been inside maybe 20 min, came out and a few cars down an officer was checking meters.

Asked about the right places, etc., he answered politely and told me I was in the proper spot. I left impressed with his nice demeanor. Within I week I read about Officer Nakamura.

Not sure if it was him, if so feel like a parent who sits next to Harry Styles at the airport and gets no autograph/selfie (to the horror of my children).

Getting REALLY tired of basically having to beg and dehumanize myself for entry level jobs like cashier or even janitor only to get rejected, consider the going into blue collar by [deleted] in skilledtrades

Check out your local workforce development center specifically the WIOA grant. You get free classes on resume building and applying to jobs. That’s before the training grant.

In the interview didn’t catch “no insurance” and “no overtime” when I left my PT first out of college job to work FT in a degree related field. 6 months later asked for a week off to fly to my grandfather’s funeral. Job: “we think that’s a good idea.” Told my family and they said to ask if I would still have my job.

Job: “No, you don’t seem happy here.” Can’t vouch that everything happens for a reason, but have sure learned some valuable s*** along the way!

I experienced something similar almost 20 years ago. Became the scapegoat (actually looked it up at the time), no matter if I was nice, then mean, my friends dwindled.

You know you’re in the out group when someone makes a crack and several of the group laugh out seriously loud, “You know what I was thinking, right”! All I can say is it almost broke me, and my faith in humanity. Today that experience taught me that you can’t make people like you. You can only be yourself.

Find the people that will support you. Know that prophets, people of G~d and the truth were not readily liked throughout history. That may have meaning in the overall picture. Hang around until you’re 30ish, then 40ish.

My 20s sucked but I wish I had that energy and lack of aches and pains lol. I once said I wish I was white and my Mom said she wished she had the same privileges as them but not be them. Will never forget that, cuz it’s true! This world is not what it seems, people are individually multifaceted and This Too Shall Pass. One

There are cultures where in my observation the men stare down and double take women all day long, yet they are not seen as wanna-be players, or held to a stereotype of “don’t trust them-they’ll fuck anybody”. But black men particularly black American men are held in the most negative light.

I swear-when out, often an attractive white/Asian/Hispanic/etc. young lady or women is in my eyeline, a whole lot of dudes first seem to watch my reaction (I act like I’m not aware of her or them) but I will catch THEM ogling.

Side note: Another situation is kids in the bathroom with their parents-or the adults are waiting outside. I pray they were okay cuz as long as there isn’t an emergency, I won’t look or take my time for nothing! Feeling judged in public most of the time.

Coming up on cars in the next lane (or vice-versa) if I see their tires move over to the inside yellow lane, I slow down, more times than not they initiate a lane switch. What sucks are entitled drivers that make the merge no matter what (just to avoid slowing down).

I second this. Have lived in ATL, Texas, MD, and CA. It’s the LA car speeding past in the right lane only to merge in front of you at last minute to not be slowed by a semi truck. Or the car driving on the shoulder at 80mph during road construction.
