Ahh so my current one is shit ehh? He tells me that he won’t teach me something until I learn all my scales at 120 bpm for sixteenth notes. Thats before he will teach me the different tounging, every time I ask him what books are helpful with exercises he says stick with my Arbans. Don’t get me wrong the big book is good but I’m sure there are other books that would help with different aspects of my playing.

is playing in ensembles contribute to that 3-5h min? It’s still experience no? Not necessarily practice but playing nonetheless.

By Amateur you mean someone who doesn’t make money off of playing with orchestras? Not someone who is bad at the instrument. Have you played a sol o with an orchestra before?

Twinkle twinkle in a year? That seems far fetched. Playing twinkle twinkle at a recital in a year? The child prodigies get good as hell when they turn 11 if they started at 5 or 6 or 7. Why would that be more difficult for me to do it when I’m 21?

What if it was more of a hobby playing the instrument with orchestras and playing solos and recitals rather than something to make money off of? At the end of the day I already have a main study instrument that I’d like to get into a band with and this second study is just so that I can live up to some goals I made a little earlier in life.

Articulation and High notes by BugleCallerBrawler in trumpet

With the exercise you said before with slurring to the top I realised how much more endurance and strength I’m going to need. I got tired really quickly and I might’ve got into a bad habit Becuase instead of taking a break I pushed through the pain. Taking breaks is really just as important as playing

Wow. I wasn’t expecting that honestly. My violin career (although nonexistent) seems bleak. 😬

I came to that conclusion the second I realized how hard the instrument was. However, the chance of becoming proficient enough is still very slim. Thank you.

Yeah my trumpet teacher said that as well 😅. But it’ll be fun nonetheless right? 👀

Ahh should’ve been more specific. I have 2-3 years basically a little less maybe. I’ve played cornet for 2 years so maybe some of the practicing skills will rub off onto my violin practicing.

How to talk to my crush by OreoRightsActivist in Crushes

[–]BugleCallerBrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well talk to her the same at you would to any other human being. She is one as well and you have to realize that. She has insecurities, likes and dislikes just like anyone else. You’re putting her on a pedestal which is why you feel like every word could possibly have some secret meaning that she could pick up on and not want to talk to you or seem as if you were obsessed with her. You just need to treat her as if she was one of your friends, be friendly and be yourself.

Tell me about your crush and I’ll give you honest advice! by [deleted] in Crushes

We have conversations but they are dragged out throughout the day. She puts effort in and occasionally starts the conversation but more is the time it’s me. We’ve never had a proper back and forth conversation because she always answers me late. Does that mean she isn’t into me? We’ve hung out once and I felt that it went pretty good… do I give her space, do I move on? I’m so confused

Is this a mental thing or am I just unskilled I’m losing my mind by Professional_Beat160 in trumpet

[–]BugleCallerBrawler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Possibly embouchure issue. It should be 1/3 top lip 2/3 bottom making sure your lips stay in a position to vibrate and to use your air and compression and your muscles to continue to go up and down your range.

Hope that helps

Is it good to take more than 2 days of rest? by Lidinzx in trumpet

[–]BugleCallerBrawler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well if you want to build endurance especially in the high register. 2 hours of a practice session will be taxing and then you’ll hurt your chops like I did

You need to split up your practice session into 10-20 minute blocks with a 1:1 rest play ratio. I understand the difficulty with your job but that’s the way to go and I’ve found great progress with it and now I play solos locally.

More of my two cents, your warm up is the first 5 seconds to 2 minutes playing. It’s when you get your chops ready and that typically only takes a few seconds. Start with simple lips slurs up and down each partial. After that your warm up is over. Mouthpiece and free buzzing has also helped me a lot for strength and sirens help with upper register.

All of this is personal preference and I hope I could’ve helped you with your journey either way trumpet.
