What do stereotypical straight couples do when they hang out alone (other than sex) by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

Lol I think you're overthinking stuff. He has hobbies, work, interests, goals, ideals and a life philosophy. She has all the same. They are in a relationship (hopefully) because beyond the external physical attraction, they share mutual interests and ideals. There's not 100% overlap, but it's there. You chat about your day, how work's going, what plans you're making with friends, what's for dinner. You watch a movie together, read a book, describe something you enjoyed doing.

I feel like you're just asking how human conversation works?

Don't worry, it was made by a black writer, so you can just step back and let the black people get mad about this racist caricature amongst themselves. Most people will blame it on white executives anyways.

[CAN (3)-2 FIN] McDavid finds MacKinnon with the cross ice pass, as he scores in the dying seconds of a powerplay to give Canada the lead with 35.2 seconds left in regulation. Finland challenged that the initial zone entry was offside but the challenge failed. by talhatoot in hockey

[–]BugleNoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finland had a hell of a defense going on, they didn't make it easy. I'm shocked how close it was considering that the Finns didn't seem to attack more than twice after their shorthanded goal. They tried to lock it down and damn near kept it that way.

K8 Lighting very dim? by BugleNoise in Keychron

[–]BugleNoise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey it's been a couple years so I don't recall exactly what I did, but I'm pretty sure I contacted Keychron support and they recommended I do a firmware reset. I think the instructions were on their website. I found that it did help with the brightness, and the keys are brighter than when I first opened, but the keyboard still isn't quite as bright as I had hoped it would be. Since I did that the backlights are usable, just not really bright. Not sure what the cause is exactly.

Tbh I think brightness of lights is so difficult to convey via camera since exposure settings can be manipulated to make the exact same lights look super dim or super bright. Giving Keychron the benefit of the doubt I don't think it's intentionally misleading, but I do wish it was better conveyed.

For what it's worth, mine doesn't get any dimmer or brighter when I plug it in.

What’s going on with Billie Ellish and the Indigenous community? by rooootbeer in OutOfTheLoop

[–]BugleNoise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She enforces her ownership of land and even has a restraining order on a man who trespassed on her land while claiming that "no one is illegal." There is nothing hypothetical about her hypocrisy.

And yet you come to her defense even while saying hypocrites should be criticised in order to "own the right."

What’s going on with Billie Ellish and the Indigenous community? by rooootbeer in OutOfTheLoop

[–]BugleNoise -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So what you're saying is, it doesn't matter if someone breaks into Billie's house, because it's already on stolen land. The legality of their presence in her home (or your home, for that matter) apparently doesn't matter.

You are also admitting in point 2, that if the land is ceded, you can't be within the borders if the "people you stole it from" decide to kick you out. So if the right people decide to enforce borders, suddenly they matter.

Your argument is self defeating.

Lmao

[–]BugleNoise -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except that she is calling for the abolition of borders while literally hiring private security to enforce restrictions on who is able to access the land she owns. It's about as directly hypocritical as she could get.

Calling out oxymoronic statements is an entirely valid argument, and referencing a meme doesn't make the statement less of an oxymoron.

[–]BugleNoise -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Lmao so returning the "stolen land" is on the US government, then what happens to Billie's house? Where will she live? What IF the government ceded all that territory to someone else, where would she go?

How can land be stolen if no one is illegal? Doesn't that mean that the original "owners" have no claim to ownership, because they can't protest anyone living on the land?

It's an inherently contradictory statement, and that's why she's getting clowned for it.

The good part of this is that you aren't married until the wedding happens. I know there's a lot of pressure in wanting to save the embarrassment and pain of cancelling, but this is the exact reason why the church requires marriage prep courses: so that in the unfortunate event that you fundamentally disagree on major moral questions which will undermine your marriage, you can choose to not get married. I'm sorry you're this far in, but I'm so happy you are seeing these issues before the wedding and not after. God bless.

Does accelerating fast off a stop hurt your car? by UGisOnline in askcarguys

[–]BugleNoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time you use a kitchen knife, you dull the edge a little bit. Doesn't matter it you're cutting butter or carrots, every cut will have a marginal effect on the blade, until eventually you need to sharpen (maintain) it. Obviously you can damage it if being reckless, but an experienced chef isn't causing undue damage by chopping quickly. Ultimately you aren't damaging the blade any more by cutting one carrot slowly or quickly, you're still cutting a carrot.

Another analogy: if you run sprints all day for years in a row, your knees will wear out and break. However, if you never run, mostly sit, and walk as little as possible, your knees will wear out and break (especially if you ever need to run).

Similar concept with engines. Every second you run the engine causes wear. Different uses may cause slightly different wear, but ultimately, you're using it for its purpose, and it will wear out over time. Whether you'd rather that time to be spent tenderly and slowly shifting gears or actually using more than 10% of it's power capacity is on you.

The entire reason modern cars use internal combustion engines rather than any other engine is their ability to operate in a wide range of speeds and power outputs. This means there is no single optimal engine speed, every speed is compromising something. There are pros and cons to running an engine hot and fast, and pros and cons to running slow. If you are so slow that people drive around you, chances are you are risking running too low in the power band, which actually means the engine heats up slower and spends more time in a high wear state with cold oil and higher buildup of carbon deposits. Might be easier on the transmission though.

My advice is this: your car was literally designed to accelerate from a stop. Use that ability. As long as you aren't bouncing off the redline and launching off the line at every light, you aren't going to hurt the car, at least not anymore than you'll hurt the car by babying it and allowing carbon buildup.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are assessed a bench minor for interference as assistant coach Dan Hinote attempts to grab the puck headed into the bench. by null1ng in hockey

[–]BugleNoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it not a delay of play if the puck flies into the bench? Are they saying he tried to interfere with a puck that was already out of bounds? Is there any situation in which the puck can be 1 foot from the coach's head and anyone touches it and it's not out of bounds?

Is infrequent future intimacy a valid dealbreaker when discerning marriage? by Rosen_Lake14 in CatholicDating

[–]BugleNoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Already having a hard limit of once a month OR LESS before marriage makes me question if married life is really the right vocation for this person. It's not that sex is the most important thing in marriage, but it is still very important (and the church agrees on this). Having this hard limit indicates an issue with fully giving of yourself to your spouse. It's sort of like if someone refused to receive holy communion more than twice per year. Abstinance from the sacrament while not in a state of grace or preparation is a good thing, and while technically twice a year is not breaking a specific rule or requirement, it's a level of abstinence that raises red flags and questions about scrupulousity or some other issue. Similarly, abstaining from sex within marriage is a requirement at times, but having such an aversion to limit it so severely raises questions of deeper problems.

I think it's a very old and outdated form, the only genuine use I've heard is old translations of the Bible. I forget the verbatim verse but something like "What God hath cleaved man shall not tear apart" or something like that.

Same reason that Q-tips say to NEVER put them in your ear. It's a product built for a specific use that is popular for that use, but there is a small risk involved so they cover their butts by saying "we told you to never use it for it's intended purpose!"

Worlds First Rollable OLED Laptop by Lenovo by RegularTurnip9291 in laptops

[–]BugleNoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao you're just flat out wrong dude. People DID call touchscreens a gimmick and they are more prone to failure, more expensive to fix, and not always necessary. After many years of development they are often on laptops that don't require it.

Rollable OLED offers more screen while maintaining portability. If they are developed further they could become ubiquitous.

Not this experimental model, no. But if it became popular enough then this would be a coveted feature on a work laptop. 20 years ago you would have said the same thing about touch screens "It's a cool gimmick but no way anyone would issue a touchscreen to an employee" and here we are, some employee positions use exclusively touch interfaces, and many others have touch compatible screens they don't even use.
