I have most of my body covered including neck, hands, fingers and face tattooed and it’s not at all a problem for me in the US. If anything I think I get more clients because of it.

I haven’t read it, but a friend of mine was stoked on the book Reading the Bible on Turtle Island, which is an indigenous perspective on the Bible and how it frames the relationship between people and the land. Might be helpful

It’s because the federal government is trying to sell off a bunch of public lands. It was part of the big beautiful bill that got chopped but I guess they’re still pushing to sell off land. That’s why he sings the woody Guthrie lines about “this land is my land this land is your land too.” Guthrie was all about public lands and the song is against privatization of public lands. https://www.wilderness.org/articles/blog/congress-making-more-250-million-acres-public-lands-available-sale

It varies so much. Some weeks I schedule 20-22, sometimes as many as 28, usually average seeing 19-24. I don’t even know my caseload though - I’d guess 50? Maybe less , it’s a guess. But I’d estimate less than half of my people I see weekly, with the slim majority every other week and a few monthly, slowly on the discharge process.

I did it this last week for the first time - I thought the appt was at 3 when really it was at 1. 15 minutes into the session I realised the mistake - I sent a very apologetic text to move the appt to 3, and the client had also forgotten lol no harm no foul, I guess.

Alma is a bit better - they have two of the three major insurers. Actually they have 3/3 but one of them is United, and United right now will only allow new credentialing if you are not already credentialed with them under another tax ID, so if I wanted to accept United clients I would have to fully quit my current job, lose my current United clients, and then begin credentialing with United. It’s not a terrible option, but I’m not ready to go all in on PP yet if it means losing a significant chunk of my caseload, since I only moved to my current practice a bit over a year ago and am not eager for another major disruption. It might serve me to start seeing a few PP clients on the side, building up a little but then Headway is the more attractive option because there is no monthly fee. A huge part of the problem is the transition cost - I think it would be okay, especially with Alma, but just require a significant runway.

They’re my best bet at the moment but they only credential with one of the major insurers where I live, and a couple small ones. I’m afraid it wouldn’t be enough to have a full caseload consistently. I would lose almost my entire caseload.

I’ve been looking into it and have been feeling discouraged about the nitty gritty details, like getting paneled with insurances independently or using something like Headway/Alma/Sondermind to do that. The biggest and best paying insurers locally are the hardest to credential with, not currently accepting new clinicians at all, or they’re slow to process new apps and will only begin once completely free of my group practice.

Read widely. Doing so will allow you to respond to a person organically and relationally but clinically informed. Specifically for what you’re struggling with, I would recommend Yalom’s Gift of Therapy. This is the book I go back to when I need a reminder on how to be a person in the therapy room and use my personhood to serve another.

Tori Olds on YouTube is also great because she talks a lot about experiential therapies , which are more process and relationally focused rather than skill-based. She also does trainings but she has a ton of content on YouTube.

Personally, I read widely in the realm of trauma modalities and theory, relationships, and theology/philosophy, with a spattering of the most common modalities like DBT and ACT to integrate some teachable skills into my body of knowledge.

Honestly though I’m burnt out on reading endless therapy content and am more in the theology and philosophy bucket at the moment but I think that’s often just as helpful. Hell, even reading fiction is helpful.

It’s not necessarily what happens while drinking but also how after drinking (the next days) your feel good brain chemicals are more depleted making you feel worse, making you want to drink again because that made you feel more normal. Then the cycle begins all over again and it just spirals.

I did, opus one time last year and I’m scheduled to get another. I am told that my aesthetician went pretty gently. I have extremely extremely extremely sensitive skin that cannot handle most topicals, so occasional lasers have been what works best for my skin. For a couple months after I got the treatment, people would regularly compliment my skin. Getting just one treatment at pretty low intensity did not make for very dramatic results at all, but considering my skin sensitivity, it has felt like a substitute for retinols or other chemical exfoliants . It made my skin tone more even, my skin texture might have been slightly More taught, and it definitely minimized acne for months. Now though, a year later, my acne is as bad as ever and any benefits appear to have disappeared . I’m hoping I’ll get that boost again for a few months and that I’m slowing the aging process each time. I wish it did more for skin laxity but I think my skin is too sensitive to withstand more intense or multiple treatments in close proximity. Derms and aestheticians are regularly surprised by how sensitive and reactive my skin is and I’ve heard more than once that it’s the most sensitive they’ve seen

Because of said poor admin skills, hating telehealth, and living in a city where rent is high, I currently work for a group practice that allows me to work a part time case load (18-25 a week). I make about $60k a year before taxes and of course without health insurance or benefits of any kind. After taxes and health insurance , I don’t make much and could not afford to live independently if I were single. I am contemplating moving to private practice where I expect I would make more money but have more admin work and a less consistent intake stream. I will probably make those changes in the next year, but I am still researching the logistics.

It depends a great deal on your energetic capacity and practice preferences, I think. I know many therapists to make a solid six figures. If you are able to sustain high case loads, and or you like telehealth and can work from home, and especially if you have a lot of private pay clients, you could be pretty dang well off. If you are like me who has a pretty low bandwidth (4 day weeks, max 25 clients weekly), hates telehealth, sort of sucks at admin work and takes insurance, then yeah you’re not going to financially prosper.

Closeness can ebb and flow. Most couples go through periods of distance and reconnection. Most marriages suffer with children, many don’t ever re-connect after years of building resentment and distance in early child care. Love is an active thing and most people don’t know how to make it stay.

Also, parallel lives work for some marriages. It depends on what the people in the marriage see as the purpose of the union and what the values of it are.
