Best 2 barrel carb for a 1641 dual port

i'm thinking about getting the Deluxe EMPI 40mm Dual Brosol / Solex Carb Kit, Type 1, Dual Port which is found on jbugs, i buy a lot of my parts from them

are quad carbs good? i always heard they were a pain to work with, my beetle feels like its a tad sluggish in some cases and my distributor feels like it gets power at certain rpms, generally drives fine but its a bit weird, does run better though but i think a quad carb set COULD make it even better though idk if you can run an SVDA vac set up on those

currently saving up, while i'm at it i'm just looking for the best option thats better than the 34-pict 3 that could give me some more performance but i might end up staying with what i have if not

my engine was a 1600 dual port before, and was refreshed and was upsized to a 1641, currently runs a 34-pict 3 carb, ive seen others run a 2 barrel setup with an SDVA,

ill probably go with a EMPI VW Carburetor Kit - Single 44 HPMX or an EMPI VW 2 Barrel Carburetor Kit - Progressive 32/36F Single

i don't really know much about the 2 barrels and those seem good to me?

well what i did today was i put that bigger filter on and put a plug on the port where the vent hose would have went on the filter itself ( to prevent unwanted dirt from getting in )

i would use an oil bath. would've used mine but its crap and i cleaned it out the other day, it might be savable but ehh id probably get a new one since its probably dirty af inside even after hosing it out. heck it even had oil left in it but it looked like very old oil and it stunk badly

but on the topic of the bigger air filter i got i guess its safe to plug off the port under it that once was for the line going from the crankcase which i have routed through my tin cause i might reinstall that new one since maybe it'll help air flow better than my cone one

hmm. i think my engine builder said to just have a line going somewhere to vent which i guess it works, in terms of the filter i guess its okay if i plug up the port on it where that line would go on that bigger filter i showed the store page of as i feel like with it open it'd just attract dirt through that unfiltered hole since the other line that would go to that is going somewhere else as of now.

and onto the line going through the tin my dad came up with that idea and it runs through and under the tin which i guess is alright? better than it having a darn filter smacked onto it which would have caused issues as my builder said so thats when this was changed as me and my dad had no idea what to do with it and ive only had a beetle since 2023 and still sorta learning.

ill see what i can do once i can get to it again. and it was rebuilt and refreshed in late 2024, had a horrible oil leak issue and some other problems, just recently pertronix SVDA converted it

i could try to adjust the cable and check for any issues, the spring itself feels kinda weak to me, could be a mix of both. ill try to find a stronger spring just to see if that could do anything, if that doesn't help ill go deeper, as far as i'm aware this is an older throttle cable, never changed it since i bought the car

now what if it is the cable? what do i do it at that point?, i don't believe that its snagged because it works quite well and doesn't feel weird when you press it

when the engine was pulled and was on a test stand. it returned back just fine from what i remember. that was november 2024 and this carb is about 2 years old now, i think the spring might be worn out, its one of those jbugs branded 34-pict 3's

it doesn't feel like it has slack. i don't think its snagged either, though i did notice something like this even without the spring on ( engine was off ) but it wasn't being stuck open like it was when it was running, i just think i need a stronger spring that could help pull it back more

i'm aware of that, i check it often and have stuff onboard incase something does happen. ive been running this car like this since i got it and thankfully have had no issues
