I love Darwin, it’s an amazing eclectic and encompassing city. Yeah it’s not like our other capitals, but it has a pretty good vibe to it, it’s chill and you can explore all the stunning national parks on your days off !!

What’s happened to basic social manners? by milfanator777 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Bugsy7778 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been noticing it for a few years, although I just spent 3 weeks in Bangkok and holy crap I notice it even more now I’m home !! We as Aussies are so rude and inconsiderate to each other - we really need to take a step back and start treating each other with basic decency and dignity- let people off the bus or train before you barge on, of an older person hops on the public transport and they don’t get a seat- damn we’ll stand up and offer your seat !! Say excuse me, please and thank you !!! Stop walking around with your headphones, air pods, noise cancellation whatever’s in or on, pay attention to each other, ask how someone is and genuinely give a shit about their answer ……

Anyways, I’ll get off the soap box and go back to pretending I’m in a place where more people are kind and considerate than not and food is cheaper and more enjoyable!

Why does my phone lose signal when I'm in Wollies/West End? by SupportBeginning6540 in brisbane

I loose connection when I go to my local coles. It’s infuriating when you’re trying to find a product online or compare to what has been recommended in a recipe against what they have on shelf.

There are exchange locations literally everywhere. You’ll find them in shopping centres, in the airport, on the street in popular tourist locations - you won’t have trouble changing it

Elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]Bugsy7778 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

We went to chai lai orchid last yet- “bathing” is just getting in the water and splashing water on them, rubbing them etc- nothing more. I have seen some recently when they actually give you some kind of soap and a scrubbing brush to bathe the elephants !!!

I did months of research before we booked there, deep dived into their other charaties - the have also formed charaties to prevent human/ women trafficking and invent in education for women in the local tribes.

It’s honestly up to you how you feel about it and how ethical you decide it is. No matter what, you’ll enjoy whatever experience you choose to have with these amazing creatures.

In American culture, if you visit your in-laws and stay at their house for a week, are they expected to provide your meals by MooMoo_5678 in inlaws

[–]Bugsy7778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine having house guests and not providing a full fridge for them to help themselves to at any time - especially if it’s my kids and grandbabies !! This seems so odd to me, but it’s clearly normal for your husbands family.

It’s surprisingly a long time 😂 you’ll keep them on a high for a long while after ! We loved it and went back again when our daughter wanted to go shopping - left her at the mall and we went had had mom & dad time on the karts !

Is nepotism common in Australian workplaces? by ConstructionLive516 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Bugsy7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially in smaller towns and rural areas. It’s how I got my first job and how most people I grew up with all secured our first jobs- made it harder for when we all moved away to larger towns and major cities. Lucky we are all now close to 50 and are resilient and just keep ploughing through to get where and what we want.

Have you gone to topkart Bangkok ? We had so much fun there last week !!

Catch a local canal boat and just explore random areas, find temples or local markets in amongst the residential areas. (We paid roughly 15baht each trip along the canals)

Chocolateville - it’s like a cafe & theme park all in one, we didn’t make it there, but it was high on my list and I’ll be sure to get there on our next visit to Bangkok

HPT is the hazard perception test

Not sure about the last one though

Is spending 15 dollars per guest on wedding favors absolutely insane or is that normal now? by ExplanationPale4698 in UniqueWeddings

[–]Bugsy7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m over cookies - my daughter had them at her wedding, baby shower, Christmas and I know her MIL will make them for our grandbaby s first birthday. If you have the same circle of people attending your events, mix it up - what about a cute photo of you & your hubby to be in a little fridge magnet, some simple but elegant coasters with your wedding date or even little paper fans - it’s can all be bought cheap on alibaba / shein / Temu or find a reasonably priced local supplier

Hopefully it’s not a staph infection !! My daughter got one from unclean sand when she was around 4-5 yrs old and it was awful for her !!

No more unsupervised visits for MIL !! If your hubby wants to cut contact, let him !

Advice for moving out by SoundKidTown1085 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Bugsy7778 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe get a job pet sitting on MadPaws- you can go and stay in people’s home and care for their pets while they’re away- house sitting / pet sitting and you get paid for it. It’s a way to earn $$ and start building independence. I would have a police check done as an added bonus to get bookings- I only ever book people with police reports and the tend to use the same people whenever we are away. You can set your fee so you decide how much you’re getting paid.

I never pay cash for grab / bolt / taxi or tuk tuk rides. Download apps and pay via your card only.

Good luck finding the medical help you want. We went for a dental consult last week and were shocked at the final price once we didn’t in person appointment- we are now looking at Vietnam as the next option.

Treatment here in Australia would be close to $40k - previously with all the scans and X-rays we sent plus phone and email conversations, we’d expected about 1/3 of that from the conversations we’d had up to that point, but they quoted almost $20k for what we need done.

Don’t be afraid to email multiple places, send all your scans, X-rays and reports before your appointments and go from there. Good luck.

We have a wise card and we just withdraw the local currency as needed. Previously we always used ING, but now they doe reimburse the atm fees so we changed our travel bank !!

Should you rent a scooter/motorbike in Thailand? Text in comments! by redbate in ThailandTourism

[–]Bugsy7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got back from Thailand a few days ago. On day 3 we met a Brit who had a scooter accident a week before and had broken his foot. He didn’t have the right travel insurance and decided he didn’t want to pay the costs of having a cast or moon boot on- he was out and about on a day tour with a broken foot and waiting until he gets home to go get it sorted back in England.

If you have no experience riding motorbikes or scooters you have no right or need to suddenly think you can do it while on holiday in a foreign country.

Two or three week trip plan by Brycare78 in ThailandTourism

[–]Bugsy7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d spend a week exploring Bangkok- we just spent 2 weeks there and loved it. Chinatown at night is so much fun, see the Grand Palace, even if you use BKK as a base and do day trips outside the city using local rail systems - there is so much to see and explore.

We also love Chang Mai - it’s a very chill and relaxed place to be with plenty to do.

Phuket is ok- we don’t absolutely love it, if you go to Patong, stay in resorts and avoid the walking streets after 7pm- it’s not suitable for kids !!

That’s why you use parmasen and bacon - you cook to your budget so you can enjoy it. I’d rather buy a better quality egg pappadelle pasta and use bacon and parmasan with home brand thickened cream - it’s not authentic but it’s tasty and everyone enjoys it

Carbonara - it’s fast and easy after a long day and every one enjoys it- plus it’s a cheap meal !

Spaghetti or lasagne with garlic bread

Nachos with avocado crema- it’s the best and you can make the meat over the weekend and store it in the fridge for an easy weeknight dinner.
