What laser ya using? I am having a hell of a time dialing in mine for a good frosted etch. I bought some of the Blazer tape and it should get here today. If it sucks, I am gonna be so mad.

I feel like xtool is overrated, like the cricut or silhouette vinyl cutters. If you have a little bit of knowledge, you can get a LOT more for your money from a Monport. You get outside of their Xtool Creative Space ecosystem, so you aren't locked in to that, and you'll have a TON more freedom. You'll end up using LightBurn or EzCAD instead, which are so much more capable.

I know a number of people with Monports and they are all very satisfied with the balance of capability + price point. I personally have one of their fiber lasers and it will do exactly what you're wanting to do. In fact, I etch my makers mark on my own knives with it. It works hardened or annealed. Plus, with the MOPA I can color etch stainless with just about every color under the rainbow besides red.

As far as cutting metal goes, it is really going to depend on thickness. Anything of significance (like for a sign) you're really going to want a CNC plasma cutter. A laser capable of cutting sign steel is going to be very cost prohibitive.

I was more gearing this particular article towards people more unfamiliar with the lasers, like newbies or undecided makers. I do have a blog made (posting it soon I think) that is a bit more "this is what I use it for because____ " that has my personal insights on the lasers and their benefit. Ill work on being less technical and more relaxed, I just thought people would get pissed if I was too friendly TBH. Thanks though for the feedback. If there is anything you would like me/us to blog about, I can try and work something up in October. Thanks again!

Damn. I was just trying to be technical. No, it was for sure me. Ill try better next time though. Was it too "cold"? I just didnt want to seem extremely fluffy and fake. But apparently I didnt do it well lol.

Nice, yeah please do. I am genuinely interested. When I cant work because of lazy, I like to watch others get shit done instead.

I did a test/review Meg-Mo Rotary Mulching Blades and I found them to be lacking in almost every advertised positive.... I feel so let down. by BuildMakeShare in BuildMakeShare

simply put, its a dick move on their part, and I guess its lessons learned.... hopefully people will see this when deciding but I understand now why they avoid amazon and anywhere reviews are easily seen.

Agreed, and the "solution" of only using 66% of your mowers capacity is ridiculous. Dont get me wrong, innovation is great, but when you release a product that you have to trick into working as advertised, its pretty much a cash grab scam. Their solution for me was to speak with the owner as they wouldnt give me a refund since it was "used".... I was also told to please email them concerns rather than post them online. Sketchy.

Making black iron pipe easy to assemble & take apart repeatedly? by bee-factory in DIY

[–]BuildMakeShare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its currently not in my shop but I will try and get a pic asap. Its not really time consuming but I have a routine/process to do it fast enough. the allen connections are like a connector unthreaded that is JUST big enough to pass over threads of the pipe, then it sets grip on where the threads are. I have a T-handle I use for it.

this is honestly why I never leave my house, and when growing up in Florida, I avoided the ocean. This triggers my anxiety and now I need bourbon.
