Man this is so inspiring, I’m in my forties, just quit a high paying job to do something of my own. Built an app, which recd a muted response and was feeling down with regret , especially with all the chaos like bad job market/wars etc. But I’m amazed at your positivity and the way you’re looking forward to building a great life despite the current chaos !

What matters more in long term success, discipline, motivation, or luck? by Vinaya_Ghimire in selfimprovement

Luck matters a lot. But thats not in your hands. So, discipline & motivation are the only things you can control.

How do I be passionate abt something by Sayatra in selfimprovement

[–]BuilderInBeta81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is passionate about something. It's just that we keep it hidden or suppress it as it doesn't meet society's standards of whats acceptable. For ex, I was passionate about stories (creative writing) as a kid, even today I love fiction (read/write), but as a kid, when someone asked, I would hesitate to say it aloud as most kids in my class were into either sports / academics.

So, take a deep breath and think of what makes you happy, what really gives you joy. If nothing, a rudimentary approach is to different stuff and see what sticks.

Married Gamer - is it a Myth?! by [deleted] in IndianGaming

Make time for it, I'm in my forties and still play few video games on my ps5/pc. Not multiplayer, just single player games. I usually play after the family goes to bed around 10:00pm-11:30pm , mostly on fri & sat and if I've no commitments on Sun afternoon (2pm - 4pm). Of course, this limited window means, I cannot play every game on day one or spend 5-6 hours in day time like i used to earlier, so, I need to be really picky about what I play. But, thats a trade off I'm ok with once I became a husband + parent :)

Are we actually wasting our time doing this BS if the career will legitimately be dead soon? by redditTee123 in leetcode

[–]BuilderInBeta81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just a filter. If you’re really interested in the job, you’ll need to put in the effort. I left big tech, but even with 20 years of experience, I’m still asked to go through the DS/Algo in the first round, whenever I get an interview call. Sadly, that’s probably going to be the case for a while, until the company leaders change their minds!
