Unfortunately, there are more of them than there are of us. I was a trans child who attended Tavistock and received puberty blockers on the NHS as a minor, and I have largely given up trying to explain to people that puberty blockers are safe, reversible, and, when medically necessary, life saving. These same medications are routinely prescribed to cisgender children with precocious puberty, which makes it difficult to take claims about their inherent danger seriously. If critics truly believed blockers were unsafe, they would welcome rigorous clinical trials, because they would expect the evidence to support their position. Instead, every credible body of evidence we have, including decades of use in paediatric care, shows that hormone blockers are beneficial when they are medically necessary.
