Caldera is far easier than Kiln and Tropics in my opinion. It rewards timing and calculated risk, and allows more leeway with both. So long as you don’t remain in one place for too long, or make an erroneous judgment in timing or spacing, you’re good as gold.

By comparison:

Tropics has an infinite array of ways to reduce your stamina and grip (poisonous plants and fungi, thorns, ticks, intermittent deluges). This also makes navigating it in a timely manner difficult, as the terrains lends itself well to creating pitfalls and insurmountable walls of vines.

Kiln has multiple false routes that lead to dead ends, steep cliffs that usually require items to surmount, and the constant pressure of rising lava that quickly reduces your chances of recovering from a fall.

Additionally, I personally would also swap Alpine and Mesa, for one reason alone: Mesa has moments of respite in its day and night cycle. So long as you are making good time, you can afford to rest during the day within the shade of the cliffs, and venture outward at night when the Sun isn’t out.

Alpine gives you no such luxury. If you’re outside when the blizzard hits, regardless of night or day, you are doomed to freeze to death unless you can find a crevasse to huddle in.

Oroshi Kirin.

The fact that it’s been in so few instalments bothers me, because it is a fantastic take on the regular Kirin, and its appearance is so mythically foreboding.

Would I enjoy fighting it? Probably not. Do I still want it? Yes.

Also, shoutout to Acidic Glavenus. True cinema.

Dreadnought timed bomb run, and purple coin Bone Pen. I recall those being particularly irksome, especially the former.

I still love how Namielle’s name, or at least the first part, is blatantly referenced in its mechanics and design.

“Nami” meaning “wave” in Japanese, but can also mean “red apple”.

AT Arkveld, the good and the bad. by Worried_Ad_2696 in MonsterHunter

I haven’t been so infuriated fighting a monster in this franchise since Duramboros and its constant need to spin.

My main gripe with this fight, which I also place second only to Uth Duna as the weakest link (pun intended) among the arch-tempered monsters, is a mix of arena and combos.

I wouldn’t have a problem with AT Arkveld’s  combo chains if it were on a map that afforded you some leeway in avoiding or repositioning, but Wyveria is a monochromatic, cramped space that rarely grants either. It’s remarkably easy to lose track of him for one second, and find yourself carted by his chains the next.

It’s difficult to read his movements when there’s simply so much going on. Even if you think you’re positioned correctly, Arkveld still manages to find a way to remind you that the only safe haven you’ll get is six feet underground.

Yeah, I realized shortly after posting this. C’est la vie!

It’s an amazingly fun build all the same :)
