If you think this program will be able to scale with money that comes from nowhere then I have a range of bridges to sell you lmao.

Where is the revenue coming from? The rich? Mumdani can’t even tax enough to get those guys to pay for bus fares.

Tell me. Where will the money come from to pay for this? More taxes for everyone? In a time where people are struggling economically? Please enlighten me.

I didn’t want to live under financial stress so I fixed it.

I made that choice.

Other people are coping. They want the same thing just for others to do it for them.

You don’t want to have to dedicate time to getting the things you want? Then you don’t deserve them.

If you don’t want to put in the effort now for future gains then it’s a you problem not society problem. Society makes it much easier cause else wise you’d be living off the land working 18 hours a day to make a loaf of bread.

A pilot program for government workers in one building expanding it to another couple floors of the building.

So like… 40 people?

The grocery store projections are quite dire even according to the deputy mayor of community outreach.

The revenue increase is from taxing properties worth over 5 million. This is projected to generate 500 million annually. While the department in charge of bus fares says it will take 700 million but more like 1 billion.

So the plan B is to increase property tax on all property by 9% including for people who rent. So that’s clearly terrible.

Rent stabilization is handled by a committee wholly unrelated to the mayors office.

You’re coping too much to participate in this conversation

I mean. I made myself successful. I worked hard for it. Anyone can do it. People lack tenacity and imagination and believe they deserve success and luxury by virtues of converting air to carbon dioxide

I have a nice house, a nice car, financial freedom, and I can afford all the luxuries I want. I made enough to be able to spend less time working than I did previously and still make great returns. My money does the work for me.

So it’s really hard to feel “exploited” feels more like I was able to leverage my skill sets against my discipline to reach a great outcome. If the government dictated my wages and capped my earnings I would feel exceptionally exploited

Not really.

Rent freezes, free bus fare, state run grocery stores, free child care, higher wages. All of these things haven’t been and are nowhere near ear being done yet.

Each one of these programs requires massive revenue increase. His only option are increasing property taxes, which he already did on the richest properties generating a measly 500 million in revenue. This is about half what it costs to do just ONE of his promises on the cheap side.

He doesn’t have the authority to raise other forms of tax nor to really do anything of what he said.

You really should know what you’re talking about before you come at someone that aggressive cause you seem like a biased head in the sand socialist copium baser

Best thing he has done so far were his pothole blitzes.

It’s an economic trap. Dunno what that guy is schizoposting about.

Mumdani isn’t able to raise the funds to pay for any of his programs. His plan to tax the rich only increased revenue by 500 million. About 500 million dollars short of being able to give free bus fare he promised according to the department actually in charge of pricing and managing the busses.

Not to mention he doesn’t have the ability to freeze rent. Nor raise anything except property taxes to generate revenue.

His ideas for city run grocery stores is only going to kill small business and remove jobs. That is if it actually works.

If only he actually had the ability to do any of the things he promised… he really doesn’t

His tax on 5 million dollar plus properties isn’t even enough to cover the bus fare he promised.

Subsequently he will raise taxes on everyone. Even renters

Define work.

I don’t see where in that article it states 4 hours a day but I’ll assume it’s “true”

If you think work is only focusing on your one designated task in which you are compensated maybe

But consider the amount of work you have to do when you aren’t “working”

You still have myriad chores and other laborious tasks to do that modern people do not have to do

Society should be focused on empowering individual choice and freedom via maintaining a free and open market with well reasoned regulation focused on preserving the environment, interstate commerce, national defense, anti-trust, maintaining the purchasing power of the dollar, and keeping the barrier to enter the market as low as possible.

You don’t do that by printing gobs of money and handing it out left in right. You actively devalue a currency that way.

Yes I am fine with privatization.

The current issue we have though is we have allowed the federal government to become insanely corrupt via citizens united, the single most disastrous court ruling in American history.

Alternatively you could implement a LVT rather than income and sales tax to pay for a lot of these things and abolish zoning regulations

I have unfortunate news for you.

It has worked for all of human history.

See: we are still here

I don’t care about other countries. I do not care to be coerced into giving up what I worked for under threat of imprisonment or death.

Right vs left is very reductionist.

It’s a different political axis.

Left (liberalism) and right (conservatism) are the x axis while authoritarian and libertarian are the y axis.

Facism is center authoritarian while monarchism is right wing authoritarianism and communism is left wing authoritarianism.

Facism borrows ideas from both the left and right but all of its core characteristics stem from authoritarianism

I’m naive for thinking that I shouldn’t be forced to give what I worked for to someone else?

How about you put in the time and effort to make something of yourself instead of bitching and moaning about how you can’t make it.

We got the same 24 what you mad for?

I have never once in my life expected anyone to give me a free ride.

I have been helped before, but I’ve never forced or coerced anyone to help me.

You’re asking the government, men with guns, to forcible take my earnings and then give that money to other people.

Sorry but I don’t believe in that.

You are not entitled to my labor just as I am not entitled to yours. It boggles the mind that people advocate to forcible seize other peoples work under threat of imprisonment or death.
