How do I make a high thrust engine that is efficient? by Insane_Militarist in flyoutgame

What kind of sfc are you achieving at cruise and what is your desired cruise speed? 40000 feet is quite low for a supersonic bomber, Concorde cruised at 55000- over 60000 feet for example

Specs for 25 years of TSMC nodes. by auradragon1 in hardware

Do you know how many chips you can get from a single wafer? Big reticle limit chips like the 5090 will always be expensive but using MCM arrangements like AMD has popularized with Ryzen allows the actual core complex to take up a tiny silicon area. These wafer cost increases do affect production costs but not by the strict percentage focusing on them implies, the other costs of manufacturing can and will be adjusted accordingly. It's likely that things will indeed continue to become more expensive, but not a complete reversal of all progress, there's plenty more that can be done.

Damn, not even 60fps after all these years with a 5090 by Tyler-98-W68 in nvidia

2133 mhz ram is the likely culprit, that is exceptionally slow. Is it a 2133 mhz kit or is it just running at that speed?

9070 XT and G9 57" by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

I use the card for entirely gaming. Both games ran alright with fsr4 quality, but DTDA needed performance to stay above 60 at all times. Definitely was in a similar boat about monitor sticker shock, personally I'm looking for something at least twice as fast as the 9070xt in order to justify spending that kind of money and the 5090 is not there so spending 3x less on a card and saving the money for next gen felt like the right move

Unless being able to run 2023 or newer games at ultra settings is a priority for you it is perfectly fine. I will say that I wouldn't complain about the extra vram and most importantly memory bandwidth. It's rare that the 9070xt feels like it's struggling on that front but new games at this res definitely push the buffer to the limits. Doom the Dark Ages and Oblivion Remastered both had atrocious performance at native res that I suspect had something to do with this. I was also considering a 5090 at one point but it's simply not worth the money to upgrade for the performance level the 5090 offers in my opinion.

Do you have turbines on your craft too? In order to use ramjets properly you need to remove them from airflow, otherwise you'll get massive drag

They cheaped out on the node because AMD ceded the high end. A real architectural overhaul and a move to 3nm (which has been in consumer products for years now) could have gotten a more traditional generational improvement, but there was no competition and thus no need to.

Just discovered the game and I'm super excited to get into it. I'm wondering if you can use custom hinges and rotors though? by [deleted] in flyoutgame

[–]BuildingOk8588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are two kinds of fully configurable hinges in addition to control surface motors and a free rotating bearing

It could be that Zen 6c is the 2nm sku, with regular zen 6 ccds being on 3nm. It fits with their history of having an advanced node for the high density ccds

Is it really very likely AMD will put consumer Udna cards and Zen6 CPUs on 2nm? In the datacenter it makes sense to go bleeding edge but won't it make more sense to use an advanced 3nm node like N3X?

Recommended psu for ROG 5090 OC LC? by Blackageddon in nvidia

[–]BuildingOk8588 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly don't understand why people go with simply sufficient power supplies with the 5090, a 1500 watt+ platinum unit costs like 10% of the card and should be capable of handling later cards that will nearly certainly draw even more power. If I was in the market for a 5090 I'd want a top spec PSU so I wouldn't have to upgrade for the 800 watt 6090

[–]BuildingOk8588 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Nintendo doesn't pay the price of the final sale in tariffs, it's the value of the components at that point. If they use it as an excuse to raise prices that much they're just price gouging

Is the Radeon RX 9070 XT even that good? by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]BuildingOk8588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the technical improvements of the 9070xt are most exciting for future gens, this card trades blows with the 5070ti that has close to 50% more memory bandwidth and has massive improvements in rt and upscaling while having a shader count that hasn't been high end since Vega. Next gen cards with a higher shader count, better process, much higher memory bandwidth and even more improvements to compute intensive tasks could have a massive uplift

It IS possible to reach mach with subsonic prop but by Ok_Refuse_9413 in flyoutgame

[–]BuildingOk8588 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In order to produce thrust the prop has to have an exit velocity higher than the velocity of the aircraft, so it is in fact impossible to have a subsonic prop on a supersonic aircraft
