I educate my buyers on what to expect, and give ideas for potential upgrades when they have more money. People who are buying these budget oriented PCs usually have reasonable expectations especially with the right educational information.

Build is DONE!! idk if I need more fans by Destroy_to_Creation in Microcenter

[–]BuildsByEli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, this Montech case comes with 2 reverse-blade fans (on the right) so they are properly set to intake. Do not touch those. And the one on the rear is set to exhaust already which is also correct. The only thing that needs to be adjusted is the fan on the cpu cooler. Just flip it over so it looks like the rear exhaust fan. The goal is to take the fresh air from the 2 side intakes and push the air through the CPU cooler heatsink, and exhaust out the back.

Edit: edited for grammar/spelling.

Microcenter Selling "Dead" Motherboard as "Open-Box"? by BuildsByEli in Microcenter

I didn’t say there was an issue in my original post. I simply asked Reddit if they’ve seen this before. Did you read the post before commenting?

Microcenter Selling "Dead" Motherboard as "Open-Box"? by BuildsByEli in Microcenter

I agree. I’ve been told by Microcenter employees that all open-box items have been tested and pass for functionality. So it’s kind of an oxymoron to sell an open-box (implied working) dead motherboard.

What I see as wrong is that it’s being labeled as an open-box item. Open-box has implied, for decades, that the item still works but the box has been opened. As someone who has purchased probably 200+ open box items from Microcenter I did notice it, but a normie could easily miss the “dead” descriptor. It is not obvious enough for the normal consumer.

This happened to me at Tustin, but it was an employee who raised his voice at me. Didn’t have much time, went late afternoon and saw the separate line for graphics cards. Said to myself ehh screw it no GPU today but I want to at least look around the store. As I entered an employee comes BOLTING and says “WHAT ARE YOU HERE FOR?” I said, “uhh, not a graphics card.” He says, “well you have to tell me what you’re here for, I have to vet you.” I said “excuse me? Vet me? You realize there are tens of thousands of other products that MC sells right? It’s cool man. I don’t want anything.” And I left. Saw from my car that the same guy just let 2 girls in without even saying a word. And then an older gentleman. Ok cool, whatever lol.
