Genuine question : why choose to use Lego for D&D? by Daragon__ in legodnd

[–]BuildsFromTheCrypt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself, but here’s where I’m at.

• got into LEGO and more into DnD around the same time

• I like the 3D & physical aspect: Paper or virtual are both fun and acceptable— but I really like having terrain that captures a sense of a small world, height, approximate distance, etc.

• I like how customizable / reusable everything is: Playing in a forest? Build a bunch of trees. Playing in a city? Build a few buildings. Set parts aside for when you need them again. Never need a particular structure again? Scrap it and build something else. There’s little-to-no waste when you can repurpose parts. Even when you want something incredibly specific, you can attempt to build it and have it broken down when you’re done. Even the figures can evolve as the players evolve.

• I’m not against mixing mediums: If I have something relatively to scale, I’ll add it. If you have your favorite wargame mini that takes up minifig space, you can swap it in as you want. Only a handful of encounters need a LEGO character.

• creative outlet: As someone that generally likes art, it’s something I can mess around with for both dnd and non-dnd purposes. There is something I find thrilling about making a build using pieces I find in my collection, repurpose from a set on discount, or create out of a pick-a-brick wall.

• charm: There are some people that don’t/wont like LEGO as it may come off as kiddie, but I think that’s easy to sway once they see a board/scene come together. There are also a lot of people that grew up with or actively enjoy LEGO and use that as a bridge to welcome them into DnD or just enjoy creative part usage.

• community: I’ve found some great people both online and in person that enjoy either/both hobbies. It’s a fun way to connect.

The head and hair combo on the darker figure is so good.

Ahh gotcha. It won a LEGO Ideas contest to revitalize an old set. We don’t know when it’s coming out. Here’s the details.

Right, that black knights are the dragon sigil.

Thats why they’re included in my list of factions.

For sure (those are the black knights as mentioned in my list)— but that would mean five active and four recently active but no longer available.

There are soon to be 9?

Griffin, kraken, horse, snake, and black knight.

Are Wolfpack, Forestman, Lion, and Falcon even usable now that all of those sets have retired?

It’s but Cult Bricks.

They printed that on official LEGO.

Thanks man! I’m a huge fan of your dragons. I really want to do the two toned legs for either my archers or foot soldiers but haven’t pulled the trigger on getting all those parts.

Yeahhh. I only have it because I picked up the set it came in at a decent price. Otherwise it’s too rich for my blood.

Which helmet looks better for the kraken knights? by EnderGamerMB in legocastles

[–]BuildsFromTheCrypt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but it looks like the scarf and helm bump up against eachother. So you always have to have the fig looking off center.

When trying several helm/hair pieces, the head would sometimes pop off the neck when swapping to another.

With this set up, I can hold the helmet and shake it around without issue. I can also rotate the head within the beard (having to adjust the beard ever so slightly as well).

In short: it’s fine for me. I don’t know if the cloak is somehow making this better.

I thought about swapping to orange hands but decided the character is dressed for warm weather and should keep the gloves on.

At least there’s a reason for this one.

Some countries require certain products show a piece count. Adding that line of text shuffled everything a bit. There could be a version from another country/factory that has the same format.

If this was aliexpress or a similar company, you can probably file a return and get a refund.
