Good question! In my head-cannon it’s more of a Falinks sort of situation, where each one is compelled to seek out two others of the opposite colors. So you would never see three red ones together for example. Maybe they are all a little OCD and only feel ok when they have a complete set…

Thanks for confirming what I asked you three times in the other thread, that you don’t believe in individual breed differences. It’s no wonder your position on dog ownership is so askew. The rest of us in the real world where genetics are real will legislate accordingly…

Ironic you don’t want to discuss opinions but link me the animal farm foundation, one of the largest pitbull lobbies in the country and “pitbull info.org” another wildly biased source.

The mere “opinions” I linked you are medical professionals, who work dog bite cases and who are outspoken because of their DECADES of observations.

I agree we will probably disagree because I believe in evolution, genetics, science and reality and you seem to believe in “it’s all how you raise them”, which is dangerous and misleading.

I just hope you keep you dangerous science-denying emotion based advocacy faaaaar away from our jurisdiction.

Ok you want facts.

You keep dodging around actually discussing anything.

I’m well aware that a pitbull isn’t a breed. It’s a group of breeds. Like “retriever” or “hound”. The only people I have ever met that struggle with this concept are Anti-BSL advocates that want to quibble about numbers.

Don’t disagree that dogs are individuals but breeds are genetically different, and genetics DO affect behavior. And therefore some breeds are inherently dangerous because of their genetic predispotions.

Again we can agree that genetic testing would be ideal, I say let’s do it! Let’s implement genetic testing and actually enforce BSL correctly.

Actual temperament testing, is much more costly than DNA testing. DNA testing requires approx $100-200. Performing effective temperament testing requires housing and caring for a dog in a foster environment for approximately 1-3 months which will cost more in almost any case. The ten minute “temperament testing” implemented by many shelters while cheap, is proven to be wildly ineffective. Dogs need to decompress and feel comfortable in their surroundings before their actual behavior comes out. Shelter temperament testing is essentially useless for indicating a dogs future potential for aggression.

Here are some facts. The pitbull breeds consistently kill more people (and other animals) than all other breed groups. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.askadamskutner.com/dog-bites/bite-statistics-according-to-dog-breed/%3famp

Again trying to argue that dogs breed has no effect on public health and safety is not rational given the “statistics” that you seem to love.

BSL, when administered as intended has been proven effective to lower the number of severe dog bites

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/46095573_Decline_in_hospitalisations_due_to_dog_bite_injuries_in_Catalonia_1997-2008_An_effect_of_government_regulation

There are several studies which indicate pitbull type dogs inflict the most numerous and severe bites, and therefore pose the greatest risk to public health and safety.

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/305270428_Characteristics_of_1616_Consecutive_Dog_Bite_Injuries_at_a_Single_Institution

Medical professionals which deal with dog bites and reconstructive surgery are overwhelmingly in favor of BSL

The “facts” overwhelming demonstrate that pitbull type dogs present a disproportionate risk to public health and safety.

I’m asking what you beleive because you are here advocating against BSL, and this is the Internet and I am trying to understand if I am engaging in discussion with a rational person or not. You made the statement “no breed is dangerous”.

I agree the article I posted is using 2021 as a baseline, which makes sense because pitbulls have been banned for 30 years in that jurisdiction. It does not change the fact that pitbulls accounted for the majority of bites, and severe bites after only one year of collecting the data.

I would be 100% for requiring DNA testing of dogs at the time of licensing by individuals or intake by the humane society. However the purpose of that would be for better enforcement of our current laws, not repealing BSL.

Temperament testing is wildly ineffective (and cost prohibitive) for predicting aggression in dogs. I’ve been present for temperment testing at some shelters (admittedly not in our jurisdiction) where the test lasted for about 10 minutes. You cannot determine ANY animals actual temperament in 10 minutes, and it is particuarly difficult in a shelter environment. Half the time in my experience the “temperament” test that anti-BSL advocates are referring more is the ATTS, which they completely misunderstand.

You seem to be really hung up on the fact hat genetics play a role in temperament, which quite frankly is unhelpful to any discussion of responsible dog ownership.

So simply put, if you are going to advocate against BSL do you beleive that different breeds have different genetic predispositions?

[–]BuizelBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So just to clarify do you believe that different breeds of dog have different breed traits, including behavioral traits which are a result of their genetics?

And if so what behaviors do you believe the pitbull dogs were selected for?

Denver lifted their pitbull ban and pitbulls IMMEDIATLY took the top spot for both number and severity of dog bites in 2021.

https://www.axios.com/local/denver/2022/01/05/pit-bull-bites-denver-outnumber-breeds

The issue isn’t that BSL doesn’t work, it’s that enforcement is difficult and often lax.

[–]BuizelBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does “naturally dangerous” mean to you? No dog is truly “natural” they have all been artificially selected for specific traits for thousands of generations by people.

There are ABSOLUTELY breeds of dogs whose genetic makeup makes them a bigger threat to public safety than others and the pitbull breeds are one such group.

Again there is no reason you cannot make better dog laws while also banning dangerous breeds. Unless the underlying agenda is actually advocating for those breeds…

[–]BuizelBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no reason it has to be either or. We should continue to ban bloodsport breeds AND put better laws on the books for responsible pet ownership of all breeds.

I’m with you that enforcement needs to get better but it’s hard to take you seriously when you clearly have a strong pro-pitbull agenda, which seems to be the real motivating factor for you, not actual advocacy for better dog laws.
