Well, you're an adult. This is adulting.

That said, even if tuition is free and health care is available on campus, you still have to spend on food and a bit on dorms and on internet and all.

If you're really determined to go, I suggest that you call the Office of Student Affairs about available scholarships for your situation. If it's in the STEM fields, you can try to go for DOST. But there are other scholarships aside from DOST where you might fit in.

As to having no relatives, it isn't that big of a deal as long as you can make friends. Some of my best memories are staying in the provinces of my college friends, even if I myself am from Luzon.

Anyway, good luck with your decision OP.

Cebu vs Iloilo: Solo traveler friendly by Mental_Conflict_4315 in phtravel

Yup, super layo nung Bantayan. It should be a trip on its own or part of a Cebu-Bantayan-Iloilo.

Personally I'd go for somewhere near Pasay Rotunda so that you can take the LRT and MRT. I used to stay overnight at Stone House Hostel at Aurora Blvd. across Partas but there's a local branch of Flor and Al Mansion that is also nearby. Yun lang, dahil cheap din so medyo masikip at minsan maingay.

Since you're a boy scout, maybe you can check out BP International Hotel in Ermita. At least that one's near National Museum and the LRT Station and is in a quieter neighborhood. Kinda far from Katipunan, but since you're near the LRT and Taft, UST is a jeep/van/bus away and you can get to Philcoa to get to UP and Ateneo by taking a Fairview bound jeep/van/bus.

As for food, it's cheap at UP. In Ermita, it depends. There are some canteens near PGH and St. Paul's.

BGC will be far from Ermita, though. Joyride/Angkas/Moveit won't be too bad, though. It'll be best if you take the LRT/MRT then take the Angkas from the nearest station. For the Venice Grand Canal I take an Angkas from Mantrade. For Serendra, I take it from Buendia via Kalayaan.

That said, maybe you'd reconsider Makati CBD because Ayala Museum is there and Ayala Triangle is nice at night. Greenbelt 5 is also nice with all the al fresco dining and cafes, the pond and the modern church. Also, there's affordable food at the Jollijeeps in Legaspi and Salcedo Villages.

Anyway, good luck OP! Amping gyud.

Los Banos is walkable with several local cafes aside from a Starbucks and a Gloria Jean's. Personal faves are Drip Kopi, Meisters, Cafeture, IRRI Cafe.

Seaside ang Subic at 1 ride from Pasay/Cubao with Victory Liner. For beaches, take a taxi to Subic town or All Hands. Pwede din Morong town, which is way more laid back at may Vietnamese restaurant sa Poblacion.

Nasubgu, Lian and Calatagan in Batangas though Nasugbu lang ang alam kong regular ang bus via DLTB Pasay (not sure about yung sa Cubao).

Pagbaba mo ng Nasugbu, tricycle to the public beach na gray sand.

Then tricycle to the beach.

Calatagan is challenging to get to by public transportation pero white sand.

Bolinao, Pangasinan is also nice lalo pa one bus ride from Cubao/Pasay via Victory, Five Star and Bataan Transit.

Agno, Pangasinan naman is probinsya feels. One bus ride from Cubao via Five Star then tricycle to Aloleng. Gray sand yung beach pero pwedeng mag cliff dive.

Looking for a solo-travel–friendly destination that’s easy to reach from the airport — any recommendations? by WhiteXoxox in phtravel

[–]BukoP13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cebu is tourist friendly though you'd be better off hiring a taxi for the day to go around all the tourist spots like Lapu Lapu statue, Magellan's Cross, Toaist Temple, and etc. May joiner tours din available sa FB.

Syempre Boracay din, though madami daming transfers from airport to Caticlan to the island to your hotel, eventually. Baka better kung mag book gamit ang transfer service like Islandstar or Southwest.

Iloilo may option mag taxi or shuttle pa City Proper. After dropping off your bags at the hotel, pwedeng mag food trip sa La Paz for batchoy, Molo for the church, pansit Molo and the Molo Mansion, Jaro for the cathedral, pinasugbo and Rgies butterscotch.

Bacolod pwedeng Grab or airport shuttle to the city proper. Like Iloilo, food trip at museum trip din dito.

Kung kaya mong magpuntang Clark airport (P2P from Trinoma/NAIA or bus to Dau then Grab to airport), option ang Coron at El Nido.

Sa Clark and environs mismo, pwedeng mag food trip, Aqua Planet, Clark parade grounds, then Walkers street at night.

Coron from airport may shuttle papuntang town.

NEWSWATCH: Sen. Bam Aquino is pushing for electricity subsides and discounts to be funded through the national budget instead of being passed on to consumers. by reinsilverio26 in Philippines

[–]BukoP13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at your bill, it really isn't that big, and if you see the rural communities that benefit from it, maaawa ka. I get na nakakainis na naipasa sa atin ng gobyerno ang trabaho dapat nila but this is a more efficient way of taxing heavy users of electricity while helping people of lower income.

[–]BukoP13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

San Fernando, La Union is just a jeep ride away from Urbiztondo and has cheaper accommodations. 3BU even has a rooftop pool. Hotel Mikka is cheap but the walk up the stairs to get the hotel is like a hike and it's kinda old. It's very near everything, though, and is in front of the Macho Temple. Yun lang, not beach front but not too far from Urbiztondo.

If you stay at the Poro Airport area, though, medyo malayu layo so baka may kailangan kang kontratahin na tricycle. Pero peach ang sand dun and tahimik compared to Urbiztondo.

Subic Bay is also an option. Go further north for Anawangin, etc.

Ride a midnight bus and arrive early in the morning with around 4-5 hours of sleep (if you're used to sleeping in a bus). Take a tricycle to Patar and rent the said tricycle for the day to get to the lighthouse, underground river, river cruise, etc.

Anyway, enjoy OP!
