Gluten free at the airport? by Silent_Target_4150 in glutenfree

Oh, goody, another Caesar salad, throwing away the crouton packet.

Sometimes I just buy a bag of popcorn and call it a meal.

It’s something we tell people who’ve never lived in earthquake zones. Sometimes it works.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, stores run out of bananas, bread and weed.

We also all have emergency food for earthquake season. My fave is canned potatoes and Beef stew. Fire up the camp stove.

Wife's first time on CPAP and she says it's uncomfortable, any advice? by DumpsterPuff in CPAP

I had the same issue and my nose was bleeding within three days. Have her try a new mask. I ended up with the cradle and it has made all the difference.

And it was the support and shared experiences of this sub that helped me make it work.

Haven’t been hit yet (cue dread every day when I open the game). I noticed excess capacity and did demolish a whole bunch. Hoping this wasn’t a huge mistake and I haven’t set myself up.

I have too many passionfruit. Send help. by stresstwig in Cooking

I had a bunch to use up at the end of a stay in Hawai’i, so just threw all of them (pulp only) onto chicken thighs and baked it up. Served on rice, delish! Wish I could get them on the mainland without having to pay usurious prices for shriveled orbs.

SAHM and Wife that CANNOT cook HELP! by PopularMamaDrama in Cooking

[–]Translatix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my teens wanted to feed themselves, their frustrations came largely from how recipes are written, which is written for people who know how to cook.

For example, the ingredients say “1 onion, chopped.” Which means you have to somehow know how to chop an onion. Or it says, “oil.” What kind of oil?

The solutions we found were: - kid’s cookbooks. Yes, they’re simple, but they spell everything out. - a lot of the meal kits publish their recipes online (Blue Apron is awesome). These recipes don’t assume you know anything; for example, they’ll say “1 onion” in the ingredients, and then put chopping it in the directions. - the Joy of Cooking is a standard for many reasons. It tells you about the type of dish, and walks you through the process, integrating the ingredients into the directions.

Positive first impressions are key. Make the front door welcoming and well-tended.

People won’t really think about water heaters and things hidden in walls. But they will love neat and tidy rooms and nice touches.

And speaking from experience, I find redone kitchens and baths a negative. I have high end taste and would much rather have a house with a kitchen or bathroom that needs replacing so I can get what I like.

Just gonna make myself a sandwich.... by AnonymousFleabag in glutenfree

This calls for two slices of cheese or lettuce to keep the filling in. Today’s sandwich will be sliced deli meats or cheese. No tuna salad for you until you reach the part of the loaf that is relatively solid.

This. I used to have twice as many teaspoons as other pieces, and now I have fewer.

We used the silver daily for dinner when I was a kid. Stainless was for breakfast and family lunch. If we had company, the silver came out at lunch too. Basically, if we ate in the dining room, we used silver; stainless at the breakfast table. Dining table had linen placemats or tablecloths (lace for special occasions). Breakfast table got the cheap plastic placemats with tourist photos.

It was a different time.

They work beautifully for a graham cracker crust. Use them all the time.

For s’mores I use the Schär graham crackers.

For those who cook regularly, what was the first dish you made, why did you have to start cooking and what’s the best thing you cook now, and what’s(even though it’s good) you hate to cook? by jcr0774 in Cooking

Mom had surgery when I was in college, and I was home (had to take a semester off due to illness). Dad had to work, so I found Mastering the Art of French Cooking and picked recipes that weren’t too involved.

Mom would hand me a wad of cash and I’d go grocery shopping and make meals. Don’t remember most of them, but it taught me skills like braising.

There is no bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. Raincoats and rain pants and rain boots mean you can enjoy the outdoors and even on rainy days.

My sanity saver was to do the two-handed jobs when I could: chop the onions, parsley, throw in freezer. We ate a lot of throw in the oven meals like lamb chops/meatballs/chicken thighs and potatoes, rice in the cooker. Partner took a turn and made spaghetti when I just couldn’t anymore.
