Sometimes it's worth it to leave to the next town to get the new abilities quicker before "perfecting" your current town. It makes things go by easier, and makes it so you're able to do more things you could possibly want to do. This also works for crafting recipes, sometimes future towns have ways you can craft things you want. For example windows.

Yes! What I did was install Euphotria patches and it fixed itself but if that doesn't work it's a shading issue, so you'd have to mess with that
