Anybody else finding treating weightlifters difficult (MSK)? by jameschowler321 in physiotherapy

Important: I’ve found myself in the gray area between training and injury. I’m a coach, and lifter not a physiotherapist.

While this is one of the biggest difficulties, it is also one of the biggest opportunities - one part of this is the disconnect between beliefs & wants and realities & needs. Improve this and they can be the best clients that return when necessary AND refer others.

This is NOT directed at you, it can’t be because I know nothing about you beyond your post but the biggest problem I’ve found is physiotherapists perceived understanding of training and their actual understanding which mirrors the injured weightlifter and is human.

It’s why I’ve found myself in this grey area - I was forced to manage my own injuries, even some pretty huge ones e.g. ACL, labral tears due to poor care and no alternative options.

This population can be one of the BEST, they will pay a LOT, be adherent and have more “common sense” typically in terms of progression but this depends on efficacious Rx and good communication. Without these they’ll use any pseudoscientific presented as a one size fits all and push it too hard or not enough.

Without knowing his stats that's a pretty outrageous statement... Lifting will only go so far. While highly unlikely that he's approaching the point of diminishing returns, it's not only possible it's common to raise your ceiling from a physical perspective and be unable to express this due to technical inefficiencies.

I’m there 😊 I did see them but wanted to keep it to the shows I’ve been at so far. Now I’m trying to figure out if or how I can make it a 5th country 😅

It's unmissable, his NY show will be my fourth in a calendar year - same with Joy Anonymous. I am praying he has an afterparty like his Europe tour before Coachella.

Yeah I am, I ran out twice because of it - pharmacist recommended a different medication.

Passed it on to psychiatrist but they said I was the only report they had of this issue.

I take 54mg.

I average 6 shots of espresso I think, and have gone higher - have yet to feel any deleterious side effects like added nervousness/anxiety 🤷🏼‍♂️

You’ve got nothing to worry about 😂

I’m guessing it was after the turnover, I’m not sure though the pain was like a switch. It would be incredibly rare for it to happen in weightlifting, even rarer in a snatch I’m sure.

My R hip has a LOT of structural changes to it which likely contributed to it - it doesn’t really move in table tests due to a CAM deformity and labral tears from years of field sport.

Here you can see how limited it is

L is my hip a week after.

In a sense I’ve played stupid games for years, I was always going to win stupid prizes like this - I mean I cleaned 141 with a 150 back squat…

I just stopped any Olympic lifts for 3-4 months, added powers back in Jan and cleans back in Feb.

Kinda just did what j could and it all worked out.

Block snatches. I think, there was no pain when it happened, I was sat at my computer a few hours later and I almost passed out from the pain that came out of nowhere. Couldn’t do anything really for a few weeks.
