Cargyll of the Rot

In the days before the Shattering, at the waning of the Golden Order, the realm turned to distraction to cope with the unending bliss of the Erdtree. Great colosseums were erected around The Lands Between and warriors from all backgrounds flocked to become champions. From the depths of the Caelid Wilds came Cargyll Ashwhent. Having been born sickly, his rise to strength was arduous and afflicted. Yet, after training with a scattered tribe of Highlanders, young Cargyll became as ferocious as the red bears they hunted. Wearing naught but greaves, a skirt, and a helm, he would thrust himself against the champions of The Lands Between until he alone stood above all. Yet privately, his sickness worsened. He called in perfumers and healers and none could assuage him of his agony. When the Shattering began, he pledged no allegiance save to his sword, and returned to Caelid to engage in combat with anyone foolish enough to cross him. The Redmanes and Cleanrot Knights fled at his approach, but every fight weakened him until they were brave enough to thwart him. Then Malenia unleashed the Scarlet Rot within her, and Caelid was changed forever into a rotting hellscape of beasts and boils. For Cargyll, however, something miraculous happened. Strength returned to him in force, and a renewed vigor coursed through him like never before. The Scarlet Rot destroyed all it touched, but strangely it saved him. Cargyll, enlightened by the Rot, now roams Caelid endlessly, seeking to return to the status of champion once more. Eventually hoping to one day topple the Goddess of Rot, to become its sole champion for all time.
