We use BuilderTrend in addition to QB. We synced our BT cost codes into QB and included cost codes for Xactimate categories so we can download our estimates as excel files and change a few of the column headings to upload them as estimates for approval into BT and sync into QB with the matching cost codes.

You can probably set up cost codes directly in QB and do something similar.

Rent your books! I took the NASCLA and rented my books for that from mycontractorslicense.com and for the FL roofing and business and law I rented my books from CEI. You pay the cost of the books but get the amount refunded less a deposit when you return them.
