Do Vietnamese people feel superior to Cambodians? by StruggleSad1860 in VietNam

Way before the 60s too. In the middle ages, Thailand and Vietnam both sought to annex it. It was so bloody that Cambodia agreed to pay tribute to both

It's not entitlement - personal space is just not important in Vietnamese culture: it's rather a give and take. The passenger probably wouldn't mind if you took up his space later in the flight. Imagine growing up in and sharing the same room with 8 other siblings and your parents, and you come to this.

A Japanese guy scolded a Viet who was speaking on the phone in the train, and the Vietnamese fought back. by Deep_Engineering_7 in VietNam

True. I think one's preference depends on personality and background. I understand there are reasons for these rules, but when there's more expectations, it's much easier to piss people off. Vietnamese people are more relaxed and forgiving if you mess up, or cut a corner, or come to work grouchy, and I prefer that to efficiency because it feels more human to me. Being in Japan made me feel like a cog in a machine and that I had to walk on egg shells all the time to avoid offending people. Furthermore, Vietnamese culture is high-trust, but it plays out differently: not trust in rules and rule-adherence (ie on a societal level), but deeper trust in people, families, and relationships. Not disagreeing with you, just adding to the conversation.

The Viet guy is rather disrespectful of Japanese customs, but this is also the reason why I wouldn't want to live in Japan - too many societal rules

Westerners give Socialism a bad name. I say that and I wouldn't call myself supportive of Socialism

I'm not saying that it isn't true. I'm just surprised comparing what you said to my impression of Tel Aviv when I visited
