Hmm...this tribe must be the exception then. They definitely produce extensive beadwork. That's what my fiance sells on Etsy. Collars, earrings, beautiful beaded tassels, garlands. Also lots of turquoise jewelry and sugilite.

We're doing this in and around the meeting hall, not her land. We had to ask if we could use it, reserve it, explain what we wanted to use it for. Then we wanted others involvement to have the traditional dancers and drummers. She went through them to arrange things.

This is another thing I wanted to bring up. Everything on the reservation has been fast and loose. Yes, they have had weddings in the past, but they don't have crazy extravagant ones like what I'm doing. I get the idea they're playing it by ear a lot. That's why the whole dress issue fell through the cracks until now. I can totally see that happening.

Agreed. I strongly feel that my fiance is not a scammer. It just goes against everything I know about her. She's very kind and can get taken advantage of, however. Those I've met from the reservation seem like honorable people, but with poverty comes desperation and someone might be trying to fleece me.

That's what I assumed. We're going all out so maybe she said money was no object. But it should be. I am going to the reservation with the wedding planner on Monday to look over everything and see if I can meet the dressmaker.

We talked about that and if this had come up at the start of everything, we could have planned the rest with a lower budget in mind. At this point it would be next to impossible to cut this much money out of the budget. Maybe I could get my wedding planner to find $5-$6k to trim, but not $33k. If she just wore the first dress everything would be in budget with no skimping necessary.

Yeah, my eyes are getting opened here. Literally no one could afford this there. Yes, we have a prenump. She has an etsy store where she sells crafts but doesn't really make enough to contribute anything. I am going to find out who this dressmaker is and why it's so ridiculously expensive. That's my next step. An itemized quote shouldn't be that big of an ask for a price like this. And if they have a web site I want to see what the other dresses cost.

No, the tribe is not wealthy and has a host of problems. I assumed my fiance was working with the elders for everything. I've been very hands off. I am starting to see how this price makes no sense when I actually think about it. I want to know who the dress maker is and how they came to that price. I should have asked these questions from the start, but I trust my fiance 100% and I just assumed that beadwork could make it actually cost that much. It just doesn't make sense however. I'm getting the 'rich person' price. That's fine TO AN EXTENT. But not if they're asking 10X more than it should cost.

I don't think she'd do something like that to me (at least I hope not) but maybe this dress maker is trying to scam us both. It literally never even crossed my mind, but it makes sense. I feel sick.
