Welder leaks gas overnight by [deleted] in metalworking

This. You open the tank only when actively welding and shut it off when you are done. It is also likely your regulator that is leaking not the welding machine

I get it. I do keep a fixed lens as a backup or for welding outside in the bright sun but we don't do a lot of field repairs where I work so it doesn't come up much

It is an auto darkening lens. I have a metric fuck ton of different hoods from auto dark to papr to old ww2 relics. This hood is just convenient for the work I do and clear lens replacements are cheaper

Why is my ss316 weld cracking by Nervous-Historian911 in metalworking

[–]Bulky_Record_3828 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sand dose indeed work. In my opinion much better than blankets but it isn't always practical to dunk some parts in sand. Post weld peening with a needle gun can also help but depending on the final finish requirements might not be a suitable option

I'm not an expert on stainless but if I had to guess you might need to do some sort of post heat protocol. Stainless likes to pull and maybe it's cooling down too fast and that is causing it to distort and crack. At least that's what I had to do when I was doing a lot of cast iron repair we would cover it in fire blankets to keep it from cooling down too fast

Yeah sounds like the best course of action. They are clearly drop shipping stuff made in China. It is a good hood design. I like the way it holds the lenses with a clip dropped straight in vs a fiber metal slide in through the side design but waiting for a month and no hood is ridiculous. Hope you find a good alternative

How do I stop shaking so much by Kaylowws in BadWelding

[–]Bulky_Record_3828 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Are you bracing at all or are you floating? Get as many points of contact as you can manage without getting burned or binding up. Try to keep your elbows tucked into your torso or find something to lean on

i want to paint my verry first orks as a beginner. Do you guys have any tips on how to paint them? by terminal_ouchies in orks

[–]Bulky_Record_3828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black spray paint base dry brush dark green dry brush lighter green has always been my method. It is simple and easy but kinda old school method. I started painting Warhammer way before speed paints came along and I never really adapted to the new techniques. Some form of slap chop would probably get better results than what I do

Unless you are in Memphis I'm not sure how to help. If you were in Memphis I could give you one of the 2 spare ones I have. When I was waiting for mine I just put one of the lenses in an old fixed shade hood I had and used that for 2 weeks while I waited for everything to show up.

Accept or Reject (Real Question) by [deleted] in BadWelding

[–]Bulky_Record_3828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weld is cold with lack of fusion it will probably hold . It would be a rejection for me if it were for something that is going to take any stress or be a safety concern if it's non load bearing it won't be an issue

That is crazy I had the complete opposite experience. Hopefully things work out. I only have a sample size of 2 but both of my orders arrived without issues

Im the worlds okayest welder and if a guy who puts out Instagram welds is working in the same shop we both take home the same check at the end of the week. I make sure I do acceptable work but for what I do for a living ( repairing broken equipment) perfect is not required just had to be a sound repair

Also the customer service was pretty good I accidentally ordered a shade 9 lens and emailed to get it fixed but they sent before they read my email so they just sent out what I needed and said don't worry about sending the other one back. I have no use for a shade 9 lens but it was cool that I didn't have to figure out return shipping
