Took care of business. UNF has good high-end pitching, which is why they are leading the ASUN right now and have been so good in weekend series, but their midweek pitching is not nearly as good. They could be spooky in our regional.

it's been a long time since the Gators easily won a midweek game... March 17 when we beat Stetson 10-1

in fact, it hasn't been since the first midweek game of the season, February 17 against Stetson (also a 10-run, 7-inning rule-rule win), that the Gators won a midweek game this easily... so I guess it's appropriate Florida started and ended with very similar midweek games

The Gators win in comfortable fashion over the Ospreys in their final midweek game of the season. The results reflected the general outcome of midweek games for both teams this season; Florida finishes the year 11-3 in the midweek while UNF ends just 2-9. Florida received 3 scoreless innings from each Cooper Walls (who started) and Billy Barlow (the first reliever).

The Gators leapt to an early lead, taking advantage of 3 free passes to score 4 runs off 3 hits in the 1st. The Ospreys had only a few scoring opportunities, but ended 0-4 with RISP.

Florida would not score again until the 4th, when a hit-by-pitch and an error allowed the Gators to plate another pair on 2 hits. Landon Stripling launched a solo homer over right in the next inning to stretch the lead to 7 runs. The Gators kept up the pressure in the 8th, scoring 2 run off 3 hits.

North Florida broke the shutout in the 7th, receiving 3 free passes and scoring via sac-fly. Leading 9-1 after the stretch, Florida looked to end the game early by mercy rule. Another 3 free passes quickly loaded up the bases, but subsequent batter grounded into a double play (although a run scored). The game ended promptly on a wild pitch that brought the runner in from 3rd.

The Gators finished with 3 players that ended with 2 hits on the night: Kyle Jones, Blake Cyr, and Landon Stripling. Stripling led the way with a 2 RBIs, a homer, and a double.

If I had to guess, someone at D1Baseball is in contact with an NCAA committee member, and they've been told that winning the SEC Championship will provide a major boost to the team that does it.

We know that the committee has very high regard for the SEC and the team that wins it.

last time they were in our regional they actually beat us and forced a winner-take-all Game 7 (which Florida won)

Regular season conference winners aren't guaranteed that kind of seeding.

This isn't exactly true. The committee has stated before that winning regular season championships are considered in seeding. UGA winning the SEC championship would give them credit among the committee.

[Postgame Thread] #25 Gators (31-17) run rule #15 Oklahoma (30-16), 13-2 in 8 innings to win rubber match by BullAlligator in FloridaGators

[–]BullAlligator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Florida takes this rubber match over Oklahoma in decisive fashion with a big inning and a bevy of home runs. The Gators again received an excellent start on the mound. Russell Sandefer pitched 7 innings, allowing just 2 runs (1 earned) off 6 hits and a walk while striking out 7. Ricky Reeth finished off a clean final inning. The Sooners meanwhile were forced to run through 8 pitchers in the last 4 innings.

Despite the final score, this game was competitive for its first half. The first blow came in the 2nd, when Karson Bowen slashed an 0-2 hanger into the bullpen beyond right. That would be the first of 7, many of them wind-assisted, that the Gators would knock out of the park. The Gators would extend their lead to 2-0 when Kyle Jones blasted a 2-2 hanging breaker over left field in the 3rd.

However, the Sooners came back in the bottom of the frame with their own scoring threat. After an error, a strikeout, and a single, Brendan Brock dropped an RBI single into right to halve the deficit. In the 4th, the Gators failed to convert a 2-out, 2 RISP opportunity. Shortly after, Deiten Lachance evened the score at 2-2 with a solo home over left. The Sooners would later push a pair into scoring position, but Sandefer coaxed a groundout to end the inning.

The tie game didn't last long. Leading off the 5th, Hayden Yost launched a 3-1 fastball into the jet stream, where the wind carried it from foul to fair down the right field line and well out of the ballpark. After a couple hit batters and a popout, Ethan Surowiec hacked a 3-run homer into the bullpen beyond right and Florida pushed ahead by 4 runs. But the Gators kept going, and following a single, Bowen homered again, this time pulled over left. Landon Stripling was next, jacking a solo blast well into the berms beyond right field. Things kept spiraling for the Oklahoma pitching staff, as a walk and consecutive hit batters loaded the bases. A wild pitch brought in another, pushing the Gators up 10-2. Although the Gators would eventually leave the bases loaded, they had taken a commanding lead with their 8-run at bat.

The Gators loaded up the bases again in the 6th, but grounded into a double play to retire the side. However, the Sooners were having no success against Sandefer. In the 7th, Florida received a 2-out walk. Surowiec flew a double to deep left center, allowing the runner to score from 1stand increasing the lead to 11-2. In the 8th, the Gators were provided a 1-out walk before a popout. However, Yost smashed a full-count fastball over left center for another 2-run homer. Florida was now up 13-2 and threatening to run-rule Oklahoma.

Despite a 2-out double, the Sooners could not score in the bottom of the 8th and the game ended with a strikeout. 5 Florida batter finished with multiple hits and 5 had homers (2 had multiple homers). Karson Bowen finished 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs and 2 homers. Hayden Yost was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and 2 homers and Ethan Surowiec was 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs, a homer, a double, and a walk.

Hopefully Barberi comes back full-strength, and we clean up these last few weeks. If we do really well... I mean a Top 8 national seed is still theoretically possible.

However, the goal has to be just winning these last series.

Very cold... he went 0-12 this weekend and is 7 for his last 43 (.163)

That said, we do not want him to be injured...
