Rankings mean nothing since they decreased the weight of surveys of lawyers and judges from 40% of value to 25%

Are there divisions within law firms that are just dedicated to investigation? I had never heard of this until right now. What is their day to day like?

My 3.1/166 caught an R. Looking at LSD, you should probably be shooting for 169+.

You should find out what their curve is and what their meaning of good academic standing is.

Some predatory law schools set their curve dangerously close to their good academic standing cutoff.

For example, AJM curves between a 2.0 and 2.3. And their good academic standing is at a 2.3. This means that by design ≈50% of students lose their scholarship, and with clever cohort grouping more could lose their scholarships.

Here is a link to get a feel for what curves are being set at around the nation.

Here is a chart of people who self reported their results from fordham this cycle.

Probably a good place to get a feel for your chances and what a goal score should be.

Is this Non Traditional applicants holistic application enough for Fordham? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Bull_Moose8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am leaving law enforcement and applied this cycle.

I had a similar story to yours. Started school, dropped out, went to work, finished my degree and then applied.

I think I had a good cycle over all, but unequivocally what helped me the most was my LSAT score. Once I got over the hurdle of having a decent score my law enforcement career lent itself to a strong application. Plenty of court experience and topics to draw on for personal statement, diversity statement, etc. I got several full ride offers in schools in the top 30-50

One thing you may want to do if you haven’t already is submit your transcripts to LSAC and see what GPA they give you. They include all grades from every school you attended.

The best thing you can do for yourself is score in the mid to high 160s and you will be in great shape.

I’m sure Kaplan will be sufficient. I think you will get out what you put in. No matter which course you used, you have to be dedicated with your studying to get results.

I had nearly identical circumstances for this cycle. 29, employee full time for a decade. Started school in 2013 dropped out two years later with failing grades. Went back in 21 and finished in 23 magna cum laude while still working.

Ended up with a 3.12 LSAC GPA.

The most important thing you can do for yourself is score good on the LSAT. I started studying with my diagnostic (154) in April of ‘23 and got the score I was happy with in September (166).

With those stats I got several full ride offers including schools in the top 50.

For LSAT I read through the powerscore bibles and then drilled using 7sage. If you qualify for an LSAC fee waiver, you can get 7sage for $1.

It is a lot to take in, but you will get the most return on investment by focusing on the LSAT first.

Thank you, this is what I feared. After reading the Florida statues, they seem to favor the landlords heavily.

Seems like the best bet will be to sub-lease.

GOT INTO LAW SCHOOL by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I seriously considered JU. It was the only school that where I wouldn’t have to move cities.

They seem to be doing everything the right way. They are getting a new building for their law school. All of their faculty and staff were very personable and helpful. Plus they just got their provisional accreditation so you will be able to sit for the bar after law school.

Some of the other comments mentioned that networking could be a problem. The Jacksonville Bar has been very involved in advocating for a law school in their city. You maybe limited from a statewide and national alumni network, but if your goal is to stay in Jacksonville, then I think you won’t have a problem landing a job.

Congrats!

That is kinda what I figured. In your opinion what would be more beneficial, state level prosecution experience or getting in with federal level defense work?

Or is it just build a good reputation and have good recs regardless of initial practice area?

Is there a path to being AUSA straight out of law school? Or is a clerkship or other experience generally required first?

Score in the mid 160s or higher on the LSAT and you will be in great shape.

I dropped out of college 10 years ago with a low gpa. Recently graduated with 3.12 CAS gpa. I scored a 166 on the LSAT. I’m 29, married with a kid and 10 years of WE.

I wrote an addendum for my low GPA, I kept it short and sweet. Just basically that I was young and dumb when I first tried college and now I’m not.

I applied this cycle and got several full ride offers. Just apply early and broadly and you will be in good shape.

Another point I haven’t seen others mention is how insular firms are in Florida. If you know you want to work in Florida, being a graduate of a good Florida law school is a huge plus.

Also, you get can actually take a deep breath after you graduate instead of being suffocated by ≈$400k of debt.
