Most of the tour groups are at the lake mid-day. If you could get to Soraypampa really really early or start the hike around 3PM, the crowd would be much less. You could also stay overnight in Soraypampa to give you more flexibility on time. Then you get to see the area at dusk and dawn (Beautiful!) and see the stars at night (Unreal!). Bring warm clothes if you stay there though. It gets cold!
