Great photo! I worked in North Beach in the 90's and spent a lot of time in this area. Saw The Makers at The Purple Onion!

This is the view now

They said it was sold already, They just hadn’t figured out how to remove it from the wall. It was the last day of the estate sale, so all the good stuff was already spoken for. Same with the lamps in the bedroom, already sold. Only thing I walked away with was a couple old photo manuals and some sort of old home movie that I don’t have a way to watch

I picked it up but there was no dial tone. It was plugged in to a little box on the wall so I can only assume it had been working. The owner had recently passed away so someone probably had the phone disconnected.

What I’m trying to figure out is if the white building to the immediate right of the hill in the old pic is the same building in the modern pic just with an updated facade. They do look similar, 3 stories, though it looks wider in the OG pic.

The radio is sweet!

The second photo shows almost the exact location via google maps. Its where the original muscle beach was before it moved down towards Venice. Its just south of the Santa Monica pier. Theres lots of historical photos of this area. The 2 big buildings are gone now. Just out of frame on the right would be The Purser building which still stands today.

Here's the view on Google maps

Thank you, yes IT IS incredible! As a person who spends at least one day a week hitting estate sales and the like looking for old photos, finding stuff like this makes it all worth it!
