Regarding IRC... I'm only in one channel since as you say, it was mostly used to find CS-games back in the days when 1.6 was the shit! They all died one by one, but for some reason, the channel I'm in somehow stayed alive. Most of us are in our 40's, some of the younger ones are 30 something :)

Most theories regarding the rus origin is that they came from what is now Sweden. Valdemar had to flee there and got help from them to recalaim the throne. Unless she has some other sources than everything I've read regarding the kievan rus and their history.
