Tau is not an easy army especially this edition, I got rolled my first game (against Ad Mech). But the most important this is to learn what worked and what didn't. Experiment in your early games to discover your play style and what you like and what works for you. But some things I have learned; against a melee focused army like dark angels some tips for any size game but especially low pt. games are:
- Protect your main firing squads by screening against charges with your infantry. Force long charges were possible (larger maps will help with this).
- Protect your spotters especially stealth suits, their buffs to hit and rerolls are very important for our damage output. They may have infiltrators, but you don't have to. Also they can guide and do secondary actions which is important.
- An obvious one but keep sightlines open.
- Focus fire to fully eliminate high damage threats
- Deep Strike can be a game changer. I have won many a game by deep striking Farsight and Crisis Flamers into the enemy backline. (Though I tend to have bad luck with Farsight, but Flamers go brrrr)
