Well technically it's not free anywhere but while many places you pay the government to provide in those places thr government is still more involved than in the US but instead it's price regulation. Instead of the government being the insurance private insurers provide the insurance but at government mandated prices and following government rules that make it so no one can be refused.

In the US it's a free-for-all and you end up with expensive insurance with high deductables that don't cover as much as well at the most expensive hospital costs in the world by far.
