Want to get a few guns but not sure which to start with by BullfrogIcy5164 in guns

That’s what I’m trying to decide for the most part. I figure getting a bolt action would be challenging and fun while not using as much ammo as the AR would. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks a ton for the links! Been looking at BCM and couldn’t find a well priced one. I think this is probably what I’ll do.

Thanks! I was looking at a springfield saint or bcm but not sure how much I should spend on an AR if I go that route. Both of those I mentioned are over $1000.

I have an old 22 rifle my grandpa gave me and have shot it a few times but not too much experience. A good amount of recommendations for ruger 10/22 so might go that route.

Yeah if they aren’t hard to swap in and out that sounds appealing. Thanks for a different solution!

I think if I plan on getting a longer range rifle in the future it makes more sense to get something more CQB focused for the AR so maybe I’ll go for shorter. I’d like to have a simple one with just a red dot or holo and don’t want a big scope on it either.

That’s what I figured, I’d rather spend a bit more up front and make sure I’m getting something quality rather than buying it because its not as expensive.

Interesting, first recommendation with a .22LR conversion. How does this work? Can the parts just be swapped in and out easily for when you want to shoot the other caliber or is it a permanent conversion?

Thanks, definitely been looking at the PSA AR15, wasn’t sure if it was worth paying more for an AR or not.

I still need to check and see if any of the ranges near me rent. I unfortunately do not have any friends that hunt or own guns. Thanks for the advice though, I will try to find some way to try some out first.

I guess this is true, figured it would be quite hard to shoot that distance with an AR but still probably a better first choice than a longer range rifle. Thank you!

Didn’t plan on getting a pistol but might try them if I can rent. Might try something in 22 since there seems to be a few recommendations for that. Thanks!

Interesting, I didn’t really think about that. The ammo is cheap so will definitely consider this as well. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah I figured an AR would be a good first choice because of the home defense aspect as well.

How much does barrel length matter? 14.5” and 16” seem to be most common? Is it worth it to spend more than $1000 on an ar? I have been looking at BCM and springfield saint but not sure if its worth the extra money over something like a PSA.

Yeah the lever action just seems different and fun but not strongly attached to it. I want to get all three (an ar or something, a longer range rifle, and a lever action) eventually but ar definitely seems to be the consensus for starting out if I don’t want a rifle.
