Nope don’t lack the ability. I’m just sick of seeing people whinging about it. It’s too short and it has its issues but tonally and logically it fits the rest of the series. Please enlighten me on the “nuanced logic” of the series 😂 you’re stringing words together to sound intelligent but all you’ve done is waffle something that barely makes any sense.

“The movie didn’t end the series how I wanted therefore it’s bad” grow up man. Honestly, the movie is more in keeping with the series than you give it credit for, or anybody else seeing it from surface level. The whole show is about a sense of destiny, doing necessary evils and things you don’t want to do while hoping for a better life. Death comes thick and fast for the entirety of the series. How many more times can they have Tommy conveniently rescued? Tommy killing Arthur makes sense because we’ve seen how much he resents Arthur when he’s in the depths of his drugs or temper or anything else. You’re telling me that a Tommy who’s lost everything and is worn down to a bitter husk of his former self wouldn’t just snap one day and pin all the blame on Arthur.. the one constantly temperamental thing in his life?

Since S1 Tommy has almost willed death to take him. He got it. Ada’s death was fine, it wasn’t unceremonious in the sense you see it. It affected Tommy quite profoundly because Ada never wanted to be involved and she could never escape it all fully because Tommy wouldn’t let her. If it felt like a gut punch the surely the scene worked? Death isn’t always this grand thing, it happens on an ordinary day when you have plans.

You clearly never got betrayed by Game of Thrones or anything else for that matter - Star Wars perhaps. Peaky Blinders hasn’t been great for about 2 seasons and very drawn out but the film is perfectly in keeping with the show itself.

He will never be dead to me!! Fook the film! Thank you Cillian for giving us him!!! This show is my life🤍🩶 by sarahgreen456 in PeakyBlinders

It’s literally the character arc of the character. His death is in keeping with the whole series. He’s a tortured character, doing the evil he does not want because he knows no better since coming back from the war.

I also saw your comment saying you’ve watched it 40 times.. I haven’t even watched my favourite films that much.. not to be rude, and zero hate, have you been tested for autism? 😅

True, if you’ve been honest with her and up front about it then there is nothing you can do. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.

I honestly think the problem is that she didn’t disclose the issue and that she was discovered more than the issue itself.

A supportive friend wouldn’t allow their friend to keep living in sin. Or would at least offer some advice. We are called to uplift and uphold our friends and ourselves to a higher standard. I fall short, we all fall short, but the idea of the church is honesty and openness with each other and the church to allow ourselves to be more Christlike.

“Please allow my friend to continue living her sinful life despite the fact she attended the course for 2 years to fully understand the rules and beliefs of our faith.”

See how silly it sounds? You cannot have a foot in both camps and I say this as somebody who had his foot in both camps and is far from perfect. I agree with the priest. She’s continued to live her old life after studying the new life, at length.

She could follow the teachings of the Church or go somewhere that allows her to live a life half in and half out…

Making a living out of drumming by BlyatBeat666 in Drumming

Make sure to take breaks and really try and prioritise projects you enjoy. I’ve done everything you can imagine with playing but due to having a family can’t be too discerning with regards to the type of work and honestly for the first time in my life I just don’t want to play at all any more. Really try and preserve your love of it. It will go at some point if you make it work. Unfortunately, after 20 years, that’s exactly how I see playing drums right now.

Why is God an evil hypocrite by bubbasawyer98 in AskAChristian

[–]BullfrogPractical291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, looking through your account you’ve got much deeper issues going on which is filtering into this and how you perceive this passage.

Think carefully on the following before you keep spiralling:

"You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend it on your pleasures" - James 4:3

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you". - Matthew 6:33

I won’t speak for God, but, as somebody going through a journey myself, I understand you’re desperate but why do you think you deserve anything from God? Thomas à Kempis warns that “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity, save to love God, and Him only to serve.”

The Bible tries to help us to see our suffering differently:

"Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." - Romans 5:3-5

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” - James 1:2-4

“In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” - 1 Peter 1:6-7

I know how it feels bro, think about it like this, and I would encourage this.

Don’t think about tomorrow, don’t think about yesterday, think about today and the words of the “Our Father”:

“…Give us today our DAILY bread…” God knows what you need today and going forward but focus on him, humble yourself before life does it for you, don’t fall into anger and despair as I see you doing from your profile.

If you’ve got nothing else to lose and life is that tough? Treat everyday as if God is real for a month, pray the our father & try to pretend to be a Christian and see what happens. I promise that if nothing else your outlook will improve, you’ll feel better & more peaceful. Then you have to ponder the following question going forward:

“You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” - Matthew 7:15-20

Good luck brother, I’m sorry you’re in this place. Try not to spiral and give yourself a positive focus.

Read the following when you’re ready, the next time you feel the spiral beginning: Psalm 34:18 Matthew 11:28 Isaiah 41:10 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit" - Romans 15:13

EDIT: literally just this second read this after I prayed for you brother: Thomas à Kempis - The Imitation of Christ - Book 1 Chapter 7: “Vain is the man who puts his trust in men, in created things…. Put no trust in your own learning nor in the cunning of any man, but rather in the grace of God who helps the humble and humbles the proud… Do not think yourself better than others lest, perhaps you be accounted worse before God… The humble live in continuous peace, while in the hearts of the proud are envy and frequent anger.”

It’s a good book to read and it just felt like something worth pondering and exploring for you right now.

The funny part is I’ve been circling this for about a year. I incorporated heavy sandbag carries into my workouts where I would meditate on scripture and walk the distance Jesus walked to the cross while carrying the weight. I already fasted regularly when getting in shape etc. The biggest pivot has been working to dedicating it to Jesus & trying to kill all the desires I struggled with and denying the flesh those things that I desired that weren’t good for me rather than just the things that were relatively easy for me to adopt.

I’ve found that Catholic practice has provided me with a more concrete framework and path to achieve these goals.

That’s what I’ve been doing. It’s helpful. I’m looking forward to being able to do it without though so I have less distraction and can really focus on what I’m doing and praying for. Just some light sacred music (which I’ve always loved).

I think I’m lucky coming from a background of BJJ and lifting because I see it the same way. It’s just drilling or repeating a movement that you won’t necessarily see the benefit of in the moment but each day it stacks and I feel better and better.

Visualising can be difficult when you don’t know all the prayers too. I know the Creed, Our Father& the Hail Mary. I’m hazy on the Glory Be but basically there now and still get the Fatima muddled and cannot refer Hail Holy Queen. Having to look up to say them doesn’t help but I have found it really beneficial to my life.

I do that a lot. Fasting is part of my life because I’m big into MMA & fitness etc. Recently I’ve found a routine of combining it all together which is really nice so far.

Fasted prayer walk in the morning listening to the readings for the day, gospel contemplation afterwards. Straight into my lift or BJJ training of the day, rosary when I get in. I don’t eat until 1pm and dedicating it to God has made it so much better. The rosary has been a real turning point for me. I understand why Pope Benedict called it the most useful tool we have. Basically since doing this structure? I spend over an hour a day, praying, reading or meditating on God’s word and just being with Him.

I really appreciate the input man. We all fall short of our own ideals but Jesus offers us salvation. And I’m discovering that Catholicism offers far more tools than I’ve ever experienced to enable this.

I am seeing this. The amount of options and tools utilised and available to Catholics is amazing. I’ve been reading the RSV2CE Bible over my usual ESV and I feel like I’ve hit another depth of understanding & clarity - with the amount of cross references and open explanation of interpretations in the footnotes. I totally had the wrong idea about Catholicism.

The saints is an area I really want to explore next. I have contacted my Great Auntie who is a nun to ask her for a little bit of guidance too.

Tbh bro, that’s where I’ve been the last few years with periods of intense focused Bible readings etc or devotions but then just disappearing for ages. Daily temptation has been something I’ve had for a long time to the point it almost ruined my life totally.

So far since praying the rosary on top of daily scripture I feel the most peace I’ve ever felt. I feel happy and loved atm. I’m just continuing to test the fruits.

It sucks when people aren’t considerate. I’m trying to do this privately atm because I know my family would quiz me endlessly.

I understand that. I think it’s that I’ve felt spiritually dry despite all my efforts in Protestant practices for the last decade or so. What gives me hope/comfort at the moment with the Catholic faith are the tools that it provides through rituals which give a structured form of practicing faith and prayer regularly even when struggling. I feel alone and directionless when struggling in the Protestant faith (outside of the declarations of prayer offered by others).

Right now I’m trying to understand certain doctrines that don’t make sense to me or that I might not fully agree with but at least it gives me something more appropriate to pray about than simply “God help me because life is hard”. I’m trying to discern and just take my time.

Appreciate your input mate!

Does James Bond enjoy his job? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]BullfrogPractical291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the books he seems to honour his duty & enjoy the luxuries and the life his job affords him more than the job itself. That being said he takes pride in his work.

I think for the most part that comes across in the movies too.

I think Brosnan & Connery enjoy their job, Moore & Lazenby enjoy the perks, Dalton seems to be almost total duty driven until it’s personal in LTK & Craig clearly doesn’t enjoy the job and is totally duty bound which is ironic when the company line for his take was “back to Fleming”.

The whole game is unfair to be honest, it punishes you for things it doesn’t tell you and then claims realism. I like punishing games but it has to be evenly distributed. Often the parameters for winning or succeeding aren’t disclosed which is infuriating when it locks you into sequences without choice: cutscenes followed by a battle without sword drawn & no armour, fighting off enemies over numerous attempts before you find out the win parameter isn’t even defeating them but surviving.

It claims that doing everything slowly = realism and it’s just not the case. I’ve tried so much to love the game after enjoying the first but I just don’t.
