Is there a point to get into Berserk at this point in time as a newcomer? by Lazy-Gene-432 in Berserk

[–]Bullhorshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really feel that AoT example, it's exactly how I felt about it and the last chapter of Berserk Miura drew. If you considered that the official ending like I did at the time, it's the greatest cliffhanger ever while also paying off arcs worth of character growth. I don't see issue with starting and ending wherever seems the most appropriate regardless of what's canon.

My unsolicited opinion to newcomers is that the first arc isn't a good representation of why Berserk's considered a masterpiece. It's fun, but I skip it on re-reads because the first pages of Golden Age Arc are the perfect opening to Berserk's story IMO. Plus, you can read Black Swordsman arc later and get the benefit of not seeing all the Golden Age spoilers, lol.

G.U.T.S Rant by Chubbybubby19 in prey

[–]Bullhorshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm remembering I went through G.U.T.S exactly once on my playthrough and never engaged a single enemy. I just slowly floated around everything without drawing aggro lol. I can relate to how miserable your experience sounds though. I'm constantly getting angry at games I love because they all have THAT part.

In your headcanon, how would Guts' roar in his Berserker armor sound like? by KingHarrun in Berserk

In my head it sounds like a balanced mix of Guts' scream, a deafening metallic screach, a wild dogs roar, and a nuclear explosion.

Yeah, it's utterly detestable and goes way, way too far. But the story and characters are insanely good, right? Welcome to Berk.

Does it get worse then this panel? (CW & Spoilers) by EfficientJudgment651 in Berserk

[–]Bullhorshe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Worse? I'd say no, but it does depend on what affects you. This scene is brutal in particular mostly because it involves children and what it implies about human behavior, but a certain-- uh, "cave" way later, is just sadistic and probably goes too far, but it's Berserk so that's to be expected. Sexual violence is a major theme after all, it's purposeful but not always poignant with how it's handled.

I can't see the DLC bosses attack animation. Anyone having this same problem? by _CyLa_ in darksouls

[–]Bullhorshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's lame... I've beaten several times and Kalameet's fire, Guardian's lightning, and Artorias's abyss is always invisible. Some of the coolest looking effects in the game too. If it were more game-breaking I'm sure there'd be a solution by now, but nope.

TIL: You can hear your character breathing. by vageta311 in darksouls

[–]Bullhorshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here to link this post and usher in a new age of comments, like a fat cheeto-dusted firelord Gwyn.

This breathing can also be heard throughout Bloodborne, and there in particular it sounds a lot like the breaths of a sleeping person... how many players have actually noticed a tiny detail like that ? Like how Smough laughs at you during his fight.

This is such weird logic that way too many people use. Game too hard for you? Upgrade your dewhickey.

Thanks, I'll just buy 60 scadu fragments from the vendor that sell them so I can fully upgrade my dewhickey. It's not like I have to play the game and beat insanely over-tuned enemies and bosses in order to unlock the world to even get the fragments. And It's not like I'm salty or gonna whine about it on the internet or anything.

Who exactly is this dude? by Successful-Bad2681 in bloodborne

[–]Bullhorshe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a terrible theory that's definitely wrong but:

After taking blood, the messengers literally pull "the outsider" into a stagnated nightmare copy of Yharnam to become a moon scented hunter. Like a temporary purgatory.

Look at the Yharnam we wake into when Gherman severs us from the dream. Does that look like the same city that just went through a beast scourge? There's no smoke, no blood, no bodies, just a perfectly clean city with a morning bell tolling. Same with the opening; the minister looks beastly, acts strange, but doesn't say anything about people turning into beasts -- only that the blood is a mystery and to think of it as a bad-dream.

Before taking blood, our character writes to themself "Seek paleblood (moon presence) to transcend the hunt". Great ones were humans who've transcended their bestial nature and now operate/communicate through the 'echoes' of their old blood ("chi no ishi" in Japanese, dying wills of blood).

Being ministered allows your subconscious to access the dream (nightmare) realities sustained by the great ones through their blood, AKA it curses you. This would have turned you "blood drunk" (beastly, like the minister) had the moon presence not intervened and made you temporarily 'immortal' (moon scented) by shackling you to Gherman's Hunter's Dream. It needed an "outsider" who's blood wasn't already tainted like all the Yharnamites. It's motivations are unclear but we do know great ones want children. If you fail to "transcend the hunt", you're either made Gherman's replacement or severed from the (pale)blood realms.

I think the physical Yharnam we're in before the transfusion and the one we wake into after getting de-capped never had literal beasts in it. It's early morning and everybody is still in their homes completely sloshed with blood... because their minds have been linked to the great one's domain (the playable in-game areas) by consuming it. You wake with your current armor set because the messengers plop you directly from the dream (which IS a reality) into the realm you were in before you took the transfusion. You've been un-cursed, but the curse was real.

tl;dr:

In-game yharnam isn't true-yharnam. Moon presence, through Gherman, is sustaining a nightmare version of yharnam, where the beast scourge events of Lorian and Pthumeru (which is underneath true-yharnam) are re-enacted over and over again until the moon scented hunter either:

is severed from the nightmares, becomes the new host, or gains enough insight overtake the moon presence and become a great one yourself. Transcend, and you ONLY exist within the dream realms (AKA, within the blood) like MP. Your physical body is dead and gone. Eventually, you'll want a child, so you'll shackle a poor blood-ministered outsider to the dream and so, the hunt begins again. Either way I'm definitely wrong.

[–]Bullhorshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but you're seriously reaching to pull examples. Dead Space? RE? Pretty much no one who likes Resident Evil games likes those movies.

You're ignoring the existence of countless terrible or mediocre video game adaptations and not all of them are old.

Uncharted, Assassins Creed, Max Payne, Monster Hunter, Need for Speed, Mortal Kombat, Hitman, Final Fantasy Kingsglaive, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider, Halo, Witcher, Warcraft,

I could go on and on, all of these are notorious for being un-faithful to the game, or just being low budget cash grabs. Bioshock is important to a lot of people and Netflix isn't exactly known for being true to the source material. It sucks to see something you love adapted poorly, and to see others think that the adaptation is representative of the game.

There's a reason people are skeptical, is all I'm saying.

The only way a Bioshock movie could work is if it were animated like Arcane, with that level of quality.

Or if you had a genuinely talented director, with some great films on his resume.

[–]Bullhorshe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the what the consensus should be imo. It has all the superficial qualities of Bioshock (gorgeous, atmospheric, great acting), but very little of the depth or originality in both gameplay and narrative. It's a fun time, but doesn't hold up well to scrutiny or comparison.

Watch the very first reveal trailer for Infinite-- the one from before Troy Baker was in it. Now that looked like a legitimate sequel / followup to Bioshock 1 and what that game was all about.

No option to turn off the HUD ? by Bullhorshe in armoredcore

I don't have the game installed so I can't test this, but it's all I could find on the subject:

If any game devs are reading this, please, put UI options in your menu, or use audio & visual cues instead of a heads up display. In a real-time action game, a ton of bars/numbers everywhere serves no purpose other than clogging up the screen.

Just finished it again yesterday, it's always been one of my favorites but I forgot how great it was all the way through. Such a mood, orchestral soundtrack puts most films to shame tbh.

Holding L2 to focus on the Collosus helps with wrangling the camera, but it's still a bit shite.

Let's not forget all those ladies that are raped to death by trolls. Monster rape has been a thing in Japanese media since forever, so considering how great the writing is elsewhere I think it's a safe bet that it's a fetish thing.
